Self test failed on X axis: why?
My MK3S was printing fine yesterday. Today I loaded filament and during bed calibration, it said crash detected. I decided to run the calibration wizard. After testing the fans, it began to move the head then stopped, saying X axis failed. I can't see anything stopping the X axis from moving. How do I begin to troubleshoot this?

My experience was the x-axis rods may need a drop of oil.

When the power is off, try moving the axis slowly from side to side, it should move smoothly without any stops. If not something could be wrong with the linear bearings, rods or the back carriage is fastened to tight.
Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉

@area51
Tomorrow I will try loosening the back carriage fasteners, and lubricating rods. Thanks to both.

Light oil is a good diagnostic test.
It is no substitute for removing them and packing them correctly with the appropriate grease.
