Scanner

Not sure if this is the proper place to post my question, I would like to own a handheld or desktop scanner to duplicate parts, I am not sure if this is easier said then done.I know nothing about scanners,They entire 3D thing is new to me, I just built a MK3 and been having a lot of fun with it. Any recommendations of brands,types,and or advise is welcomed.Also this is my first post and if i put this post in the wrong forum ,My  apologies

RE: Scanner

All scanners are bad, the cheap ones for home use.

For free, try photogrammetry, this is as good or better then cheap scanners.

Prusa made a movie about this.

Search youtube and google for more how to.

Meshroom is also good, but a lot of work, but free.

You only need a good Digital camera, quality is important.

RE: Scanner

Sometimes on youtube(or google) you find examples of the stl for some scanners, in a review.

Thanks, After reading up on them a bit,I came to that conclusion . I guess I will just have to learn a program and try and design it myself. Wondering if there are company's that would charge a fair price, If I sent them a small motorcycle part and build me a STI file .I have some rare plastic motor cycle parts i would love to print.

RE: Scanner

You can try photogrammetry.

On youtube you can find how to convert a picture(2d design) to a 3d model, with freecad it is possible, also you can take the distance from the picture, search on a how to.

@peter-m26

Thank you Peter, I looked into photogrammetry and this is really cool, I ordered some cool white PLA plastic to play around with it.
