Resin Casting and 3D Printing
So my little business is starting to take off and I am getting some requests that suggest printing my parts on demand may not be able to keep up (i.e. wholesale opportunity to sell to retailers).
This Saturday I am heading down to Brick in the Yard mold company to take a class on silicone mold making and epoxy resin casting.
I am hoping to learn whether its reasonable to 3D print a "master" and then go the mold/resin route for the actual parts.
Anyone have experience dealing with larger quantity requests with this?
Anyone have specific questions you'd like me to ask while I'm there?
This should be fun (even if it doesn't work out).

P.S. I have ZERO experience with mold making and working with resin - thus the idea to attend a class. What could possibly go wrong? 🙂

I've done silicone/epoxy and silicone/pmma casting, it's fun and not that hard, if a bit messy. One bit of equipment that changes night into day is a vacuum degassing chamber. Without that, it's an unending fight with bubbles in both silicone and the resins.

Yeah - vacuum is one of the main question I want to ask vs. the newer silicone and epoxy products that claim you don't need it. 🙂
