Reliable source for Black PETG in the US

I use a LOT of Black PETG and Ive been ordering the Amazon Basics without issue until this month. Their stock has been out for almost 3 weeks now with no real estimate as to when or if it will be back in stock. I keep trying other brands but everything I've ordered SUCKS!!! The worst was PRILINE This stuff is absolutely horrible, Maybe I got a bad roll but I would say it was closer to a flexable filament then PETG. The stuff was also crammed full of particles and jammed my nozzle so bad I had to replace it. Stronghero was ok but not as good as the Amazon Basics, especially for the price.  I just ordered a roll of Monoprice  and I've got my fingers crossed its better than the rest. At least it better be since its almost $8 more than Amazons.

My questions since there are so....... many brands out there. Can you guys suggest a decent brand that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and ships fairly quickly in the US? I use at least 4 rolls a month and I need to keep the stuff in stock.

Any help would be great. Thanks

I have used Inland PETG with decent results. Alas Amazon is out of stock. I also happen to be close to the retailer that Inland is their "house" brand - MicroCenter, but they also appear to be out of stock both in store and their warehouse.

I have also used Hatchbox in the past, and it is slightly better than the Inland. I also would not pay the current premium that Amazon has on it. If I really was needing Black PETG with the current availability, I would look at Prusament, since with shipping is still cheaper than the aforementioned Hatchbox - even if I did have to get it shipped from Prague.

  • MakeShaper has black PETG in 1, 2 & 5Kg spools available if you want larger quantities. $8 shipping.
  • PushPlastic has some available.
  • AtomicFilaments has it in stock. Free shipping.
  • MatterHackers has several brands available. Their free shipping is somehow as good as, or better, than Amazon's.
  • eSun is available on Amazon.

I've had good success with AmazonBasics black PETG as well, I bought 3 rolls for ~$50 so they were about $13/kg with free Prime shipping.

But that is also out of stock, apparently. What's interesting is this supplier though:

https://www.amazon.com/OVERTURE-Filament-Consumables-Dimensional-Accuracy/dp/B07PGYHYV8/ref=pd_rhf_dp_p_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=VY4PTWMZ9JQDGA9177AJ

They are the only other one I've seen with spools identical to Amazon's - I wonder if that is what AB was rebranding. If so, that should provide similarly good results.

Thanks, everyone that posted. This really helps.

#vintagepc. Those spools are identical. It has to be the same stuff AB was rebranding. Its a bit more but it is available. Thank you...

Is Amazon really discontinuing the AB brand of filament? seems like a rather un-Amazon move. Although there seemed to be some rather polarized views of its quality. Some say it's perfect, others say it jams and clogs like crazy. Seems like EVERY brand gets this treatment though, but maybe they're a thin-skinned about bad reviews?

I have a spool of Blue AB PETG that I thought printed pretty nicely, but I did get a partial clog on my first print of Prusament PLA immediately after swapping. I presumed that I just didn't heat high enough and or long enough before the unload/reload. Cleaning filament and cold pull sorted that out though.

Micro Center has been out of Black Inland PETG since mid-April at least. Really curious what's going on there...

I don't think so - it's just in and out of stock very often. Whenever they have bulk packs (e.g. 5 spools of PLA for $60) it sells out in a matter of hours. Whether that's just due to low inventory, or high demand, I can't say, but I doubt they'd not up their available stock if something sells out that quickly.

I just recently went through 10 rolls of Atomic Filament PETG for a large job. Not a single issue. I started using their PLA after that, and have also had zero problems there. I highly recommend it. Shipping is free, and since you say you use 4 rolls a months, they have 12% off for 4 rolls or more. So price is pretty competitive.

Have used AtomicFilament's carbon fiber PETG with no issues as well (once settings are correct). Their shipping is free, and although not as fast as Amazon, much less MatterHackers', still not a long wait.

I have been using  5lb rolls of Matterhacker PRO PLA gloss black with almost no problems. i had 2 jams the cleared by just heating up to 230 and manually extruding a bit. it did look like there was something different for the first bit extruded ( lighter color) and then it was fine.

A new filament brand, "OVERTURE" has recently shown up on Amazon that looks a lot like the old AmazonBasics spools to me. I suspect the manufacturer decided to name brand their filament for a couple bucks more per spool. I haven't ordered any yet, though may try some of the grey soon, since my AB grey has just about run out.

I've mentioned this on another thread, but I'll mention it here. It seems that the company that Prusa rebrands filament as Prusa filament (not the Prusa in-house made Prusament) is opening a US warehouse. I just checked their PETG and there are 3 colors that are $22 for a half-kilo spool, and all the other PETG colors (black included) are $24/kilo. Yeah, not nearly as cheap as Amazon brands, but it hopefully should be Prusa-like quality without the international shipping from the Czech Republic.

Before I forget, here is their store link: https://shop.filamentpm.com/

It's actually about on par, if not more expensive than their CZ warehouse. it's about 25 eur (18+7 eur shipping) for a spool shipped to the US. Say, $30 USD after conversion with some room. The US warehouse's cheapest shipping option is $12 USPS, which puts it at $36.

RE: Reliable source for Black PETG in the US

Not sure what colors are available, but I've used 3D Hero PETG from amazon in a couple colors to good results.  While I haven't yet printed with their PETG, I've been using Hobbyking's ABS for a while now and it's been color/dimension consistent as well as very cheap.  Their PETG is a bit more, but competitive with amazons cheaper offerings.  The only caveat is that some of their stock ships internationally (from HK), so even when they have all the colors you want, sometimes they're not all available from the same place/with the same free shipping offer.
