Raspberry Pi Zero 2W connected by USB to MK3S+

Guidance Appreciated: I have a MK3S+ and a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W to try out Octoprint. But before going into soldering headers, modifying the Einsy board, etc., the Octoprint - Configuration and Install instructions seem to suggest (if I understood them correctly) that connecting the RPi to the MK3S+ via USB cable works just fine. At least to test everything is functional (again, before diving into mods).

Insert the (micro)SD card into your RPi and connect it to the printer by USB. After this, power your RPi. The Raspberry Pi Zero W will be connected to the printer using its GPIO pins, not USB. We recommend doing this before proceeding. However, for these configurations, you can power it using a 5V phone charger and connect it later.

Has anyone actually tested this? I mean running Octoprint in the RPi while connected by USB to the MK3S+

Thanks!

It certainly works for the Raspberry Pi 3B and 4 models (I am using a 3B+).  I don't see why it would not work with the Zero 2W via USB.  Power the Zero 2W via the USB power input (PWR IN), and connect to the printer via the other USB port.  You could even leave it that way and not bother with the direct Einsy connection if you want.

Thanks! My RPi Zero 2W has been in storage for a while and I lost sight that it has one microUSB for PWR and one for OTG data! I'll begin experimenting ASAP!
