Random second layer support issues all of the suddon
Hardware:
- Prusa MK3S+ running firmware version 3_13_2_7080
- MMU2S running version 3_0_1
Software:
- PrusaSlicer version 2.7.1
Model:
- Any model with support
All of the sudden, all of my prints that have support have been having this issue where the second layer does not really stick well and I get lots of clumping and crashes occurring. Essentially, I can't get anything with support to successfully print anymore. See picture below as an example:
Debugging steps performed:
- Version: I originally was running a very old firmware and software version on my machine / slicer. This issue iv'e been having with support made me try upgrading everything to the latest version. So I know the issue is version independent. Before I was using 2.5.2 for prusa slicer and 3.12.? for my firmware on my MK3S+.
- Support material extrusion width: I always used the default value of 0.35mm. Increasing this to 0.45 did reduce the problem, but I still got poor adhesion and clumping.
- Support material pattern spacing: I use the default value of 2mm but did play with 1.5mm, 1mm, and 0mm. The 0mm option essentially fixed my issue. But there were still occasional clumps that I would have to remove from the model mid print and no one wants to have to remove this much support from a model.
- replaced nozzle: I tried cleaning and replacing the nozzle which seemed to have no effect.
- Live Z adjust: I haven't touched this in forever so I wouldn't know why all of the sudden my value would be too low, but I tried increasing the live Z adjust all the way up to 0. No noticeable differences from this change.
- Model: I tried printing various models, including simple ones that I know use to have very clean results
- Slicer changes: I have not changed any of my slicer settings pre and post this issue arising (not including my adjustments for debugging this issue afterwards). The only thing I had done was press the "check for configuration updates" button under configurations. This did update my configurations and unfortunately I have no idea if there was an outdated setting or a new setting that was applied. However, I tried printing a model I had made before updating the configuration settings and I still had the weird second layer clumping/adhesion issues. So I am fairly confident its independent of this action.
My hunch is that there is something off with my printer that occurred during my last good print. Maybe a calibration issue. But I haven't been able to figure it out and I did go through some of the calibration options on the printer such as first layer calibration.
I am so stumped on this one. Anyone else ever run into a problem like this and what kind of steps did you perform to fix it? Are there any calibration prints or procedures I should go through?
Here is my current setting for the pictured print above:
