Prusament Warped Directly on the Spool and Jammed in Hotend

I set a print to run and noticed when I came back that it had stopped extruding about halfway through. For some reason, the filament sensor did not trigger (although I don't think it has ever worked) and it attempted to continue printing as normal. I had to disassemble the hotend to replace the PTFE tubing and saw that the filament had gotten stuck inside the tube. The filament on the bottom was cut off the spool before getting to the extruder, it seems that the roll of Galaxy Purple Prusament I bought warped into the hexagon pattern on the sides. Additionally, the filament warping appears to be along the entire side of the filament spool. I bought another roll of Prusament at the same time, and thankfully it seems to be much better. However, for all of Prusa Research's talk about filament diameter accuracy, I am confused how the filament isn't even straight.

I'm willing to give Prusa the benefit of the doubt here and call this a rare manufacturing defect. Out of curiosity, has anyone else encountered this?

I've only used a couple of the Prusaments, but they've been fine, antyos.  That defect is unacceptable, obviously.  I'd get online with Support's Chat about this (they'll need your pics), and I wouldn't be surprised if they ship you another spool.  They're very good to work with.  They also need to know this is happening so other spools may need to be checked more thoroughly for a while.

I suspect that hexagon pattern will match the sides of the Prusament spool. What likely happened is that the spool was exposed to heat somewhere along the line from production to printing and was laying on that side until the heat got to the point that the filament softened. Given the hot summer months we've been through and the lack of concern by some shipping companies, I'm sometimes surprised this isn't more of an issue. Contact Prusa support via chat and they should be able to assist.

Classic case of DFOA (Defect Found On Arrival). Any business worth their salt should handle this as a warranty issue. I would expect no less from Prusa, so I agree with the above suggestions to contact support through chat.

I had a feeling it was probably something like that. I was in the middle of dealing with some other stuff, so I hope my original comment didn't come off too harsh. I'll make sure to contact Prusa Support and get this sorted out. Thanks!

I was a bit skeptical when I first saw your post. It's not uncommon for people to try to blame filament manufacturers for tangles. Prusa might be a bit skeptical if you just try to describe it. When you contact support, have your pics handy and maybe an extra angle showing the filament atop the spool showing the matching pattern and describe your current thinking. This is an issue they need to be aware of and possibly adjust packaging based on this problem. The world is only getting hotter. Good luck with it. Please let us know how you fare.
