Printer performs color change without provocation

While printing with SainSmart Black TPU (its the only TPU I have), the printer will stop, traverse over to front RH corner and tell me to remove print material and ask to reload as if its doing a color change. The print then resumes for a bit and then repeats this phenomenon. It happens so much that I am unable to complete the print. This does not happen when I print with PLA. Can someone assist with this?

Disable the filament sensor. The sensor is having a hard time seeing this filament, and it thinks you ran out.

This is the solution. It is a flaw in the Mk3 and it is common.

Re: Printer performs color change without provocation

I just had a raft of filament sensor reload errors on my MK2.5. After recent firmware, it started requesting filament change every 3 minutes or so. I have an orange cap with matte black enamel paint where the sensor might see and worked just fine with autoloading before firmware. New filament might be the cause, it is a very shiny PETG black from Matterhackers. Will contact support to see if they can offer something other than turn off a feature I payed for.

I had the same issue arise while I was trying to print the R3 parts. I ran for months without issue then it came on hard. When I was rebuilding the extruder, I know Prusa says not to, I took a Zeiss lens cleaning wipe and lightly wiped the mirror on the sensor. Then reassembled everything. Knock on wood, I haven't had an issue since. Like many others I'm coming to the conclusion that the filament sensor is a bit overrated and feel I could live without it if need be.

I can definitely live without the filament sensor, but it is extremely handy at times.

The problem is that the optical sensor is just a lot fussier than it should be. Some sort of scroll wheel would probably be better.

I have the same issue with some dark filaments. I just turn the filament sensor off when it happens.

Mine only used to have issues with black PETG, but in the past week it's been happening with white PLA, and with the Prusa Silver PLA that came with the printer originally (which it for sure didn't have issues with when I got the printer months ago).

I guess I'll try cleaning the sensor when I upgrade to the R3 extruder parts next weekend...

I have the same problem with different materials.
Cleaning the sensor does not really help.

Personally, I am rather disappointed with Prusa lately.
Orange upgrade kit ordered and delivered in black, Powder coated plate ordered and film supplied, sensors only working sporadically.
I feel more like a beta tester, who also pays money for it.
