Re: power to external usb
Sorry guys, but a RPi 3 does by no means draw 2.5A@5V, not even at full load. The official power supply for the Pi provides that much to power external USB hardware.
To give you some actual figures: with no external USB devices and and only either Ethernet or Wifi in use and CPU mostly idle, the RPi 3b draws around 270mA or 1.35W. Even with a horribly bad 70% DC/DC converter efficency, this would only add 2W additional load to the PSU. Neglectable, I'd say.
