post processing drill bits
According to the instructions to upgrade the MK3S to the + version I need the following:
[Twist drill bits, ideally with a flat head, but those aren't easy to find. The lower the angle on the bit's head the better. For printed parts you need two sizes: 8.1 mm / 0.3-inch drill bit (or slightly bigger, but not smaller) 3 mm / 0.12-inch drill bit (or slightly bigger, but not smaller)]
What drill bits are people using in the USA? Why are these so difficult to come by? I have a full SAE drill bit set, which ones am I supposed to use?
Thanks!
I am not aware of that requirement but perhaps this is a recent change. Prusa usually supply all necessary tools...
Please provide a link to the instructions you are following.
Cheerio,
You could try https://www.mcmaster.com/drill-bits/system-of-measurement~metric/
i3 Mk3 [aug 2018] upgrade>>> i3MK3/S+[Dec 2023]
many things are becoming increasingly difficult, or more expensive to find here in the US.
Good Luck

You can always grind the point off...
Ah yes, I'd forgotten. I have a wide range of similar tools so just reaching for the item doesn't stick in the memory... When I last printed a replacement X idler housing I used a reamer.
If you cant get conventional flat-point drill bits try an auger style wood bit - there will be a little spike at the end which can be snapped or ground off.
Cheerio,
