Original Prusa i3 MK2.5S & MK3S/+ Multi Material 2S upgrade kit (MMU2S)
Hi,
I have a question. I'm about to buy Original Prusa i3 MK3S+ 3D printer, but I would like to buy also the upgrade MMU2S to print in 5 colors.
In the upgrade MMU2S page it mentions that we need also to buy MK3/S to MK3S+ upgrade kit. This is not clear to me, since I wish to buy already the MK3S+.
Do I have to buy MK3/S to MK3S+ upgrade kit, to have MMU2S working correctly or not?

if you buy the MK3S+, you don't need to buy an upgrade kit other than the MMU2S kit itself.
I would HIGHLY recommend that if you do buy the printer you build it and get used to working with it before jumping into the MMU2S. The MMU2S greatly increases the complexity of the whole process and if you don't have a solid feel for printing with single filament first, you're going to be frustrated immensely.

I've finally got the MMU2S working somewhat reliably, but it's a journey.

As ssill2 says you don't need the MK3S+ upgrade kit, but also has he says, I would recommend waiting before buying the MMU2S until you've got fully experienced with 3D Printing as it is not a simple plug-n-play addon for most people. You never know, by the time you are ready for multi-material printing there might be a MMU2S+ out or even a MMU3.

The MK3S(what I bought originally) and the MK3S+ are great. 3d printing is a learning process that I started back in Nov, with my first printer, MK3s. Since then I've loved it enough to get a second one, MK3S+. I just recently added the MMU2S and found that after having been spoiled by how easy(relatively) and reliable the the single filament 3d printing is with the MK3S and MK3S+ I was disappointed that MMU printing was certainly not as easy out of the gate. With some mods the MMU2S can be more reliable, but I certainly don't have the trust to walk away for hours and come back expecting it to be stuck waiting for intervene for something.
You'll be very happy with the MK3S+ and when you've been able to print PLA, PETG, TPU, etc reliably, THEN you consider the mmu 🙂
