Nozzle temp reads 300 with no power on nozzle

I just turned on my MK3S+ and the nozzle reads 300 with no power to the nozzle. I replaced the thermister with a new one and it still reads 300. Any clues?

RE:

Go buy some tin filament quick!  You have a 3D printer that can print metal!

Seriously…

300 sounds like to top limit of the range, so maybe a floating (not connected) thermistor

Maybe a hardware error? (bad IC, loose/damaged/wrong location of the connection on the control board)

Maybe the firmware is bad/corrupt? (Re-flash, but not a lot of confidence in this solution/debug step)
