Noisy printing along y axis

PROBLEM: Printing in the Y axis is very noisy.  Printing also started crashing after some 10 layers or so, giving me repeated options to retry.  I turned on stealth mode which disables the crash code and printing works now but is very noisy.  It corresponds to y direction movement even when not extruding over the print object as I verified at completion when it left the printed part area, but continued to make noise.

WHAT'S CHANGED:

  • Not having printed for a few months
  • moving the printer around while not in use
  • printing with a new temperature changing color filament
  • Updated BIOS
  • Possibly rotating one of the vertical screws. Vague recollection there

TROUBLESHOOTING:

  • I've tried the calibrating options.  No change
  • I've oiled the screws and rails. No change
  • The belt tension feels right but I'm an amateur there.
  • I replaced the nozzle before realizing it's just y axis movement
  • I'm trying to add my 13 second video but my first attempt failed and I lost my text too. Where's the freakin commit button?

So, what that FRAK am I missing?
