No one said that I would need two printers....

I got my Prusa MK3S+ last week for my first recent look at 3d printing. I started configuring, printing and experimenting. It took me less than five days to realize that if I was going to have a printer that always 'just worked,' I would need another printer to dissect. I hope it is not too heretical that I just ordered a Basic Ender 3 on which to experiment while the Prusa chugs along quietly in the corner.

I am seriously impressed by the Prusa. I last looked at 3d printing in 2016 with a Lulzbot Mini. The software, hardware, and materials have advanced significantly in the last couple of years.

I never thought I would ever use two printers, but during the pandemic I picked up an almost-new Ultimaker S5 in addition to the Prusa and I still put both to very good use.

Same here.

It also turns out to be more practical in my case where I have a .25 nozzle on MK3S+, and will have a .6 nozzle on another MK3S+ that I've just bought. I don't like doing nozzle changes so buying another was a good excuse for me to get another one 😉

Im at three printers and have plans.....two Mk3S+ and a Raise3D E2 because I needed the size and ability to print soluble supports. Would gladly trade the E2 for an XL if they every come out or may just add one to the mix.

I never thought so too, now I am at printer 3 and I am not even such a heavy printer (I do use all though, its not like one is just collecting dust).
The thing is that each of my printers is quite different from the other and capable of specific things. My Mk3 (with MMU2s) is is my general purpose printer, my Voron 0.1 is for PC-Blend, ABS and all compact functional parts (up to 11 cm3). My newest addition is an Elegoo Saturn 2. I am still figuring out the potential of resin printing but I might have already found a resin where printing light duty tiny gears is a real option (and abrasion appears quite low for resin), obviously it will be also great for any kind of figurines or other models (build volume is only half as deep as the Mk3s but just as wide and with 25cm even higher). This is something I'll explore next.

I enjoy figuring out different things, rather than print farming and printing the same on 5 printers for higher throughput. Even if I started recently to print a bit for others, this is a pure hobby for me, not any source of income (quite the opposite ;))

Mk3s MMU2s, Voron 0.1, Voron 2.4

We're not angry. Just disappointed.

Just kidding (in a remote case that wasn't obvious). Best of luck with your new hobby and be careful there: it's addictive!

I feel like I am back in high school. The Prusa MK3S+ is my parent's car. It is not particularly fancy and the electronics might not be the latest. But it always works. No matter how cold the winter morning.

The Ender 3 is like my (original) VW bug. It was crazy simple. But you often have to get out and jiggle something to get it to start and run smoothly 🙂 Every once in a while, you might need a few friends to get out and push.
