Newbie checklist?
So it's fair to say I'm a bit excited that my Mk3 kit has been ordered, so I have been planning to the nth degree. I was hoping to get a bit of community input into my "prep list", both for my benefit but also that it will hopefully be a useful reference for other people awaiting their first Mk3. Oh, and I'm one of those ABS printing weirdos 😁.
So...
- read all the guides on the website.
- get a proper engineer's square for setting up the build (I have loads, sorted!)
- plan to get it printing perfectly using the supplied filament first, worry about calibrating for preferred filament later. One less variable to deal with when checking the build.
- sort out an enclosure in prep for ABS.
- obtain printing surface of choice (buildtak flex plate in the mail)
- obtain latest firmware and slicer settings
I've seen a couple of mentions of getting an M3 tap for clearing out some holes. Was that an issue with early kits or is it still required?
I'll keep updating this with any replies, thanks in advance!
Re: Newbie checklist?
Actually no additional preparations are required. Maybe watch some MK3 assemble videos to lower your excitement.
It will pay off later on if you do the assembly with no rush. And pay the most attention to cable guides. There should be no stress points or hard bends. Otherwise your cables will break pretty fast.
And no worries, you will build your second MK3 much better 😉

Re: Newbie checklist?
suggest leave it out of the enclosure till you're satisfied that you have PLA Cracked. or at least leave the door open... one less variable
Good luck, Joan
