New Prusa owner. Question about sheet profiles and how z offset is saved
Hellos and stuff. Feel free to skip:
Just got my MK3 a few days ago and I am loving it. I had an original lulzbot mini before this, but it has seen better days and there is a recurring partial hotend plug (I think) that has been driving me nuts off and on (and I hate having to have it connected to the PC all the time).
LOVING the MK3, have not seen a single plastic zit, NO stringing, calibration cube is within +- 0.02 mm in all directions... amazing!
First post here, apologies if this has already been answered, I am having a little trouble getting good search results...
My Question:
I have read the knowledgebase article on the steel sheet profiles here, but still had a few questions.
I bought a satin sheet in addition to the smooth sheet the printer came with, and would like to set them both up.
- When the knowledgebase says that all the sheets are set the same at the factory, does that mean they all have the identical z offset when they arrive (including any calibration that was done to get the initial test print?) I am really happy with the default z offset for my smooth sheet and would rather not mess with success. Basically, if I make a new satin 1 profile, will all the other profiles still have my current z offset settings that are working great?
- If I switch to satin 1 profile and do the z calibration from within the LCDMenu -> Settings -> HW setup -> Steel Sheets menu. And then later (with satin 1 still set as the current sheet) I do another z calibration (from calibration > first layer Cal.), will that z calibration save to the sheet profile or does it only save to the sheet profile if I do it from the steel sheets menu?
Thank you for your time, and apologies if it is a repeat question.
RE: New Prusa owner. Question about sheet profiles and how z offset is saved
The satin sheets are about 0.4mm thinner than the smooth sheets, so definitely need a different Live Z value.
If the default is working for your smooth sheet, don't worry, just switch to a different profile and re-do the live z calibration. The previous live z will be saved under the old profile.
To your question 2, whenever you change Live Z it will automagically be saved to the current profile. No need to do anything.
Have fun with your new printer! I love the satin sheets and have them on all my printers. Haven't touch the smooth sheets in probably a year.

Thank you so much for the info!

I hear the satin does not adhere quite as well with pla. I often do ill advised parts with very small bits touching the build plate in places or prints with a mesh like design on the build plate which gets sliced as a TON of tiny squares all isolated on the print bed for the first layer.
I mostly got it for PETG, but will try it with pla as well.
On my lulzbot I almost exclusively printed ABS, but I have a smaller area now and am worried about ABS/ASA and fumes in here (printer is in the same room as my office) so I will probably print mostly PLA unless I need flex or other attributes. The plan is to get a vent put in at some point, but that is not going to happen anytime soon.
