mystery lateral shift in prints

I'm having trouble with print shifts on my MK3S+.  I've tried three times to print the same gcode.  See the attached image.  The reason I call it a mystery is because it happens sometimes in X and sometimes in Y but always at the same Z height.  Also I printed a tower and there was no shift.

I'd think it was something on a guide rail or belt at one position but the inconsistency in X and Y rules that out.  And I don't see how a problem with the Z screws could cause lateral shifts.  I'm trying to print it now at a different bed location but I doubt that will help.  Does anyone have any idea what could cause this?

@mchahn

It would appear you have a loose screw, a Grub screw some call it. I call it an Allen screw, it's the one that tightens on the arbor of the stepper motor. check those first.

They are on the X  and Y axis.

I don't see how that could explain the weird symptoms but thanks.  I'll definitely check them out.

P.S.  I call them set screws.

See step 28 here:

Then the same for X.

Cheerio,

Odd that it always happens at the same z level. Try regenerating the g code. Please let me know what the final solution was.

The problem went away.  I tried moving it to a corner and it worked, but also two more prints since then back in the center also worked.

I guess I'll never know what it was.  I'm going to do a thorough maintenance anyway.
