My MK3 no longers prints

I have an interesting situation in that I have had my MK3 printer for about 2 months and it has been printing perfectly until I made a change to a drawing for a bottom of a box to add brass inserts for hold a lid down.

The box takes about 19 hours to print and I have printed it several times with no problems. On this last modification, it prints for 19 hours and the printer shows it is completed however the top of the box is not finished. It still shows the honeycomb from building up. Not when I try to print not will print. 1st layers sometimes work and then the 2nd layer pulls up or accumulate arounds the nozzle or gets a crash detection.

In the picture I attached you can see the box unfinished. Before printing the box I split the body 1/2" down form the top and printed just that piece just to prove my brass inserts will fit before printing the entire box. That portion printed perfectly.

So I sent my drawing to my wife's son which he purchased an MK3 also around the same time and he tried to print the box and he got the same thing. Now his printer won't print anything.

I have upgraded to the latest firmware 3.4.1 on both the printer and Slicer PE and nothing helps.

I have tried adjusting the tension on the extruder feed and nothing helps. Have gone through the whole recalibration using PLA and it does not work.

Any ideas what is going on?

Perhaps you have accidentally changed the number of top solid layers in Slic3r?

Ron,

I doubt it is a faulty SD card, since this occurred on 2 different machines. I emailed the .gcode file to my wife's son for him to print.

rhdreambox,

If that was the cause then the printer should still work on other prints right? Currently nothing works on both printers now.

💡 Ok let me refrase that, could the .gcode be corrupted?

Ron,

My step son took the STL file and resliced it and regenerated the gcode on his end and it did the same thing.

The printers wont print ANYTHING? Not even after reloading the filament/purging the nozzle?

Any symptoms like clicking noises?

When you say the printer wont print anything, what exactly does it do?
What about if you try and print one of the pre-sliced models that came on the SD card ?

Maybe try disabling retraction as to frequent retraction can cause a jammed mk3. Then cold pull just to filling clean the nozzle.😀

Re: My MK3 no longers prints

check the STL file.

i've had situations where the output from as example fusions 360 -> STL -> slic3r looks ok on the 3d preview then when sliced section of the model are missing. the worst was in a similar situation where the entire top half of the model was missing in sliced format, the 3d printer still sees there is something suppose to be in the empty space but the gcode is messed up.
you put the damaged output STL into meshmixer and it shows the errors. worst case meshmixer cannot handle the error or makes it worse and you have to go back into your 3d modeler and rebuild an area where mesh mixer reported a problem.
in one case i was working on a chassis assembly that was mirrored. except one side kept disappearing in slicer. i load into meshmixer see all the errors on that side. go back into fusion cut the model in half, delete the reported damaged side. mirrored it and reattached and viola the thing works correctly in slicer after another verification in meshmixer reported no errors.

so just double check the model this can drive you mad.
