MK4 just went on sale. Everyone is asking is there a MK3 to MK4 upgrade?
MK4 just went on sale few minutes ago. Everyone is asking if they can upgrade their MK3 to MK4. It says 90% new parts so maybe expensive???
Thanks
Richard

I don't know who "everyone" is but the blog post goes into excruciating detail on the upgrade path(s). What appears to be a requirement though is that the printer is at the Mk3S or Mk3S+ level. Older models are shown as incompatible. You can check the Prusa shop to see what the upgrade costs are. It's all been published. And yes, I wish it were less expensive, but with the Nextruder this seems to be a more significant step up compared to previous product iterations.

The upgrade price to full MK4 is near the price of a full MK4 kit. I don't see the point - may as well just buy a new kit and get a whole new printer for a little more cost?!

Considering you get 90% of the parts in the kit, the upgrade is probably priced right. I have to agree that, to me, it make more sense just to buy an Mk4 kit once they are released.

I literally just bought an MK3S+ a few days ago... I feel like I should return it and buy the MK4? It's the same price and things like Wi-Fi and faster speeds are HUGE differences for being the SAME price... I really feel they should have hinted/said something when I was buying mine. Like Warhammer 9th edition rule book and then they just slap out 10th edition!

This happens to folks all the time from buying cars to computers and just about anything. It happened to me with the Mini+. My conscience would not let me return it. I just used my mini and lived with it.

With those others it's not a 'oh here's a new release' it's a known thing weeks/months in advance. Cars? They're literally on a yearly basis, the latest GTX graphics card? Again scheduled.
If there was ANY hint/post/message stating they were coming out with a new MK printer in the coming week(s) I'd have waited, it's less than a week from purchase so I don't feel bad returning a product that is clearly obsolete now given it's the same price as the MK4.
RE: MK4 just went on sale. Everyone is asking is there a MK3 to MK4 upgrade?
That would ruin the wow factor. I suspect that will never happen.
You could start a chat with the shop and ask to return it.

Prusa gives you 60 days to return if you're not happy. You have to pay for return shipping and don't get refunding the original shipping though.
If you do nothing, then they will email you by the end of the week either a $150 voucher or $200 voucher (depending if you bought the kit or fully assembled). You can use that to buy anything you want from Prusa.

I mean, the MINI to MINI+ was just the SuperPINDA sensor, nothing else, right? Not really the same thing as 3x printing speed plus a whole bunch of new features. You could have returned it, but the shipping cost you would eat both ways would have been more than just buying a SuperPINDA and upgrading your MINI to a MINI+.

It *is* impossible to win - There are simultaneous threads complaining about delays and immediate releases ...
Your Mk3 is not obsolete. It will still do exactly what you bought it for and it will continue to do so for a long time. My Mk3 is over 5 years old and it has been printing hard all that time, I expect it still to be working in another 5 years, probably 10.
Cheerio,

I'd be pissed too bro. But rather than pay the return shipping, I'd probably try to sell it locally (new and unopened), take the voucher, buy the new mk4. Or sell the voucher too and go buy a printer from another brand that doesn't do shady business like this.
RE: MK4 just went on sale. Everyone is asking is there a MK3 to MK4 upgrade?
Honestly since it'll probably be a voucher to buy stuff from Prusa I'll buy the MK4 with it (5+ week lead time anyways) and maybe keep the mk3s+, if I feel I just need the mk4 I'll try selling locally.
RE: MK4 just went on sale. Everyone is asking is there a MK3 to MK4 upgrade?
This happened when they went from MK3 to Mk3. People lost their minds over this. If you contact Prusa they maybe able to work something out with you. I got lucky because they had a huge MK2 sale and I missed it and when I was waiting for the MK2 to go on sale again MK3 came out and people went nuts.

There's nothing shady about shipping a customer exactly what they ordered, for the price they agreed to pay. Products get updated from time to time. Yeah I would probably be annoyed too but it happens.

That is a fair assessment. But be prepared to get hit by a bus.

If somebody really wants the new model instead of the one they ordered, Prusa is offering recent purchasers a voucher which should be in the ballpark of covering the shipping both ways (original order plus return), making the customer no worse off than they would have been before, other than delay caused by their choice to send it in and order the newer model. Otherwise take the voucher and get more stuff for your new printer. Either way Prusa had no obligation to give anyone a voucher.

I disagree. But I'm not here to argue. I bought my mk3 in 2018 and don't plan to buy a mk4 so it doesn't affect me.
RE: MK4 just went on sale. Everyone is asking is there a MK3 to MK4 upgrade?
Maybe so, maybe not. But you enshrined my original reply in quote before I could edit it. 🤣
I significantly redacted what I wrote above because after sending, I realized that I could have been in error. I don't know if Prusa will still honor the voucher for people who end up returning their printer during the return window. It's possible they won't. It's not something I am going to dig further into since I am not in that situation myself.

RE: MK4 just went on sale. Everyone is asking is there a MK3 to MK4 upgrade?
I looked at the upgrade path, just buying another kit seems the way to go. I can double my print speed by having to printers running.
