Mk3s+ Stls needed...

Now that some of us are receiving Mk3s+ kits, it would be nice to have the updated stl availables.

I spun a hex nut in my extruder body, but I can't print a new one because new stls haven't been released. 😔

Good morning Nathan

Get yourself onto the Prusa Chat
They should be able to sort out the files you need.

No joy asking Prusa Chat just now - they say not available yet.

I would not be surprised if they are still finalizing them.

Yah, it's unfortunate. This should have been an item on their checklist. Must have stls available for customer if we're going to change the parts. Granted this doesn't help a brand new owner, but those of us with printers, we need access to parts. We shouldn't have to frankenstein the extruder with mk3s versions because the new stls aren't available.

For some of us, 3d printing is moving beyond hobby and into business. If I was just a hobbyist, and I couldn't print a benchy for a couple weeks...not a big deal, I'd just be patient. But I'm running a small business, and having a printer stuck in limbo that I can't finish because of a missing part means lost revenue. Frankensteining and making it part mk3s means extra work down the line and keeping track of what printer has what.

Hopefully Prusa learns from this.

They "usually" have them on git the same day as the announcement. I'm guessing with black Friday and everything they don't have time for anyone to get the stls out there.

[...] For some of us, 3d printing is moving beyond hobby and into business.

If you're getting to the point that you depend on a 3D printer for your business, it's probably time to consider products with full support service contract options. That's not what you paid for with your Prusa. A service contract will typically run 15-30% of the purchase price which will tend to be quite a bit higher to start with. In return, you can expect priority service and on-site response if needed. Short of that, you're risking your business on consumer-grade products.

Hopefully Prusa learns from this.

These are not normal times for Prusa. Along with the challenges of maintaining operations during COVID while keeping their staff safe, providing support for their local healthcare workers, increased demand for the Mini, and dealing with the Black Friday deluge, they're dealing with an international customer base and generally doing a pretty good job of it. As they catch up I'd expect the lag times to drop back to previous levels. At least Prusa is good at providing source and design files, even if they can be a bit slow at times. Not perfect, but they tend to be pretty good.

All I'm asking is that they release the stls, and do better about having them available. That's not what I paid for with Prusa? Well I'm not sure that's true. I'm not asking for on site service, I'm asking for stls that they have provided in the past and intend to provide. My expectations from Prusa are in line with the service they've always provided. Whether I'm using them for business activities or hobby activities is irrelevant.

And yes, I understand these are busy and crazy times. I'm not expecting Prusa to be perfect. I still love my machines. I'm simply offering constructive feedback. Is it ideal to release a product without the stls or ability to obtain replacement parts? No. Internally is this how Prusa wanted it to go? Probably not. Can Prusa learn for the future? Of course.

I'm sure Prusa has the same goal. I can only speculate as to what the cause of the delay is, bit everytime there have been similar gripes in the Past, Prusa has usually come through within weeks if not days.

That's not what I paid for with Prusa? Well I'm not sure that's true.

If you didn't pay for contract service, it is true. You didn't pay for anything more than consumer warranty and support. If you are risking your business on reliability, it's a business expense to get a service contract.

I'm not asking for on site service, I'm asking for stls that they have provided in the past and intend to provide. My expectations from Prusa are in line with the service they've always provided. Whether I'm using them for business activities or hobby activities is irrelevant.

Exactly. Unless you're looking for contract service, I'm not clear why you mentioned it in the first place. Prusa doesn't know and likely doesn't care whether you use the printer for commerical or casual use. They provide a high degree of service for both. If you're not actually paying for commerical service, I wouldn't get too upset that they're not meeting those same targets.

And yes, I understand these are busy and crazy times. I'm not expecting Prusa to be perfect. I still love my machines. I'm simply offering constructive feedback. I suspect Team Prusa has learned a LOT of lessons. Hold off until everything is ready and you get complaints about vaporware. Open up more orders and you get complaints about queues. Ship early revs and you get complaints about quality.

I can understand the frustration. I just don't think it's fair to say Prusa isn't meeting their obligations when they clearly intend to and are not being compensated for their efforts in extraordinary times. Hopefully this will all be moot in a court of weeks. They do seem to be shipping replacements free of charge on a priority in the meantime.

RE: Mk3s+ Stls needed...

my question is this;  will there be 2 sets of stl files? an upgrade path from mk3s to mk3s+ which just contains the newer mk3s+ stls and then the whole package of mk3s+ stls? i really only need the newer extruder and fan shroud stls for the mk3s+.

Hi Chris, I spoke to someone at Prusa yesterday, they were unable to give a release date for the printable files.
