Can you give a brief over view of what can be found in all those links? I have created wonderful prints with my machine, which makes me view a claim of "serious design flaw" dubiously.

michael.b67, is your printer signed by Prusa? Maybe that's why all you print is perfect. We're not that lucky here. A lot of printers are not signed. 🙁

Most links point to an number of threads about extruding issues, the first one points to a thread with a possible cause (idler gear wearing out it's housing and getting PETG dust into the filament path) and solution (redesigned idler with nylon washers).

What confuses me is a claim that this is a serious design flaw. You have MK3, print yourself a new idler - if you bought a kit the spares bag has a few nylon washers if not go buy some. It's like a 30min fix and you have all of the tools needed to perform it.

If you try and take a cat apart to see how it works, the first thing you have on your hands is a nonworking cat.

This is an amateur printer, with amateurish construction and performance, affordable to amateurs. Some things work great, some fail. Many people (including me) are OK with the price/performance ratio, which does not mean I like how everything goes. But if your life consists of something else than solely printing test cubes, chances are good that you get useful parts out of this printer.
But, hey, it's a free world! You don't like it - just get a pro printer with maintenance contract.

It would have been interesting to know what you consider as serious design flaws.

BTW IMO the feature that I miss most (by a large margin) is printing soluble support material, as this seriously limits the range of models I can print. I also see these extrusion issues, but for real life models they hardly have any impact for me.

This is a bizarre thread 😆

💡 Perhaps some people are just not meant to own 3d printers, and instead should consider being trolls.

Re: Mk3 Appears to have a serious design flaw and no Prusa response

Sometime I'm amazed when reading this forum.

Since I got my DIY MK3 in january I print almost every day with no particular issues, only done some improvements, printing mostly PETG, but also ABS, ASA, Flex, Carbon, the only problems at the begining was due to my lack of experience because it's my first 3D printer.

As a Linux user since 20 years, I'm very concerned by open source and it's one of the reason I choosed PRUSA.

No it's not perfect and could be improved, but you are free to make all changes, modifications you want, and no need to accept any licence agreement.

Come on, let's get real, If you are afraid of having potential issues and don't want to put your hands under the hood, just don't buy an open source printer.

So you are able to print flexible material without issues? My understanding is that flexible materials don't print well without modifications to the filament feed path, something I've been meaning to do as I want to print flexible filament.

Re: Mk3 Appears to have a serious design flaw and no Prusa response

There are issues, Prusa has acknowledged and will be possibly releasing an updated extruder design to re-print. But it's not jamming or anything listed in the links. That's possibly due to the custom e3D heatbreak. Swap it for a normal one and those may just disappear, plus cooler extruder.

It all makes more sense when you finally realize this isn't really a version 3 machine. Not in the usual sense, anyway. Instead, it's more like a third version 1 machine. If you look at it that way, your expectations will be more closely aligned with, well, what you can expect.

Have they acknowledged this?

To everyone else, I've been 3d printing for 5 years now, I'm not an amateur and I had a Mk2 previously (that I loved). The problems with extruding PLA (primarily anyway) are definitely design related, not user error. All the threads I linked two are about the same underlying problem. The only solution so far is to buy a different heat break (which is NOT acceptable for a public product).

Re: Mk3 Appears to have a serious design flaw and no Prusa response

I use flexible materials with my Mk3 ,
I have 4 different rolls, all TPU,
I get parts that I can use...

I have some failures...

I was going to add a picture of a simple multi material print combining PLA and TPU but it's on my other laptop... Will see if I can post it in a moment.

Re: Mk3 Appears to have a serious design flaw and no Prusa response

the silver is Prusa PLA and the black is Sainsmart TPU

it's only a small test print because someone said you can't print multiple materials on a basic Mk3,

and yes you can flex it without destroying the bonds

most of my flex prints have been sold...

I have one other flex print where the flex hinge regularly flexes 180 degrees, it's still going strong since last year!

club members have breech flags with flex shafts... need to do another for myself...
I have made custom retaining straps for ammunition cases in flex, and rifle Butt pads in Flex...

I haven't tried very flexible filament. when I find a need, I will look for a solution, if what I have, doesn't work

I'm a total newb at this and I had no problems printing NinjaFlex. Worked on the second try. Found good settings on this forum. Only modificiation to feed path was loosening the tension screws on the extruder idler. Just did that by feel, worked fine.

I have printed lots of TPU without issue, I did print one of these out of PET before trying and it works flawless. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2867249
I have only tried this TPU https://filaments.ca/collections/1-75mm-3d-filaments/products/polyurethane-tpu-filament-black-1-75mm?variant=1374137745416

I loosen the screws, set my TPU configuration in slicer and printed this linked enhancement. I have printed the softest Ninjaflex without any issues at 20mm/s (10 hours print).

@Topic: Printing on my MK3 on daily base PLA/PETG/ABS/Ninjaflex without any issues. With the current firmware it's printing rock solid and reliable 600g/40hours prints for me. I bought a kit, so no Prusa signatures on mine 😉

Can't confirm any serious design flaws.

When my question is answered, I will answer this.

EVERYONE has created shitty prints, that is how this hobby works. But you must just be very lame if you cannot manage to make anything but shitty prints.
