MAXTEMP warning and jumping nozzle temperature
Hi,
my printer printed fine and I didn't change anything in the setup. 2 days ago I ran a print that should last 7hours. When it was halfway done, I suddenly got an maxtemp warning. That never happened before. I restarted the print the next day and got the same warning, not at the same time though. But I noticed on the display that the temperature reading is fine when the printer is heating up and cooling down, only during the print the temperature on the screen jumps around a lot (from 240 to 160 and then up again...). I cleaned everything and checked the connection of the cables, all seemed fine. Tried another print, and it failed again with the maxtemp warning after some time. Then I noticed the PSU gets quite hot. I am now cooling the PSU during the new print, and so far it seems fine. The temperature doesn't jump around that much.
I will try another print while cooling the PSU but this now prints fine for the last 5 hours. Has anyone heard of the temp of the nozzle jumping around if the PSU gets too hot? Because the bed temperature seems fine, also no other functions seem to be affected... The print also looks normal.
Any suggestions (other than changing the PSU)?

Maxtemp errors can occur if there is a wiring issue on the thermistor, often this can be intermittent, because the print head moves from side to side, and the wirint fault may be intermittent.
A Maxtemp error usually suggests the thermistor resistance is lower than expected. so it may be the result of insulation wearing away, and allowing the thermistor conductors to touch each other. check that the Thermistor wires are separate where they leave the hot end,
the next most common problem areas are in the X axis Wiring bundle, at the end of the cable support behind the extruder and where the cable bundle goes into the einsy case. these areas are where mots bending seems to occur...

I just took it apart and realized that the cables have a bend. From the feel of it, they are broken inside, so I guess you are right and that is the problem.

A break normally results in a mintemp error
