Marathon Printing

Just finished a run of prints that went 23/7 for 14 days. The only failure I had due to the printer was a broken thermistor wire 13 days in. Just thought I’d post this for those that are afraid to walk away while it is printing. I never would have got these done if I had to be there the whole time.

Re: Marathon Printing

I thought a broken thermistor was the very reason for not leaving 3d printers alone.

Re: Marathon Printing

A broken thermistor instantly reads 0C which the firmware knows is stupid, so it shuts down the nozzle heater. (I speak from experience.) The real danger in leaving the printer unattended is that something could bump and start a glob growing on your printhead. This can eventually destroy the printer, and maybe even start a fire if not found soon enough. There are also other potential fire hazards that are less likely, but everyone gets a blob sooner or later.

Leaving a 3D printer unattended is like leaving a space heater unattended — everyone says you’re not supposed to do it, but everyone who has one does at some point. You just have to know there is a risk and try to mitigate it.

When someone asks you if you're a god, you say, "YES!"

Lol, it wasn’t anything cool or exciting. I was printing 25 of the comic book holders I designed for someone. Here is a link to the design. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2859433
