Maintenance
I used 3-in-1 oil to lubricate my straight rods.
Is this the wrong kind ... too thick ?
Could this damage bearings?ALSO ... saw video of a guy spraying lithium grease right into his axis motors. This seems utterly crazy to me. Have not done this.
Is this something we do for motor maintenance ?

RE: Maintenance
3 in 1 is fine for the smooth rods. A thinner oil will probably make it past the dust seals easier but I've used it in the past so no worries there.
Agree that spraying anything into the motors is crazy, don't do that. It seems to be rare for a motor to go bad and if one does I doubt spraying anything in there will help too much, just replace it and move on.

@neophyl
Thank you for this. So I put this question up on my Facebook forum and it stated flame war over YouTube tutorials. Did not come away with an answer.
Prusa print guide does mention lithium spray in it but does not specify spraying direct into motors ... need to look again was awhile ago
RE: Maintenance
I use Universal-Oil (ticker than sewing machine oil) for linear bearings and wipe the rods after applying. I think lithium grease collects too much dust.
Prusa has a maintenance guide for printers here: i3 Printers Regular Maintenance
No need for maintenance of the motors, they have oil from the factory.
Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉
