Layers shifting

I've had this happen 5 times now, with various prints and at different stages. All of which I have then managed to print using same code with no issues. The layers shift to the left, by various amounts. Unfortunately I've never been present at the time to see the issue happen. Has anyone else experienced this? Software and firmware up to date. Using slic3r. In the last picture the whole print has shifted left early on in the print. Previous print of the same item was ok

Try it without crash detection.

Re: Layers shifting

If it was a 'step', I would say you had a crash of some kind... But because this seems to drift (looking at the tower), I suspect your gears are not secured to the motor shaft.

This is a very common cause.. So rule this out fist.. Just check that you have the grub screws clamped down onto the flats on the motor shafts.

To re-assure you, I put off using my Mk3 because of the layer shifts that many people had experienced.. But I finally got around to using it and after 40+ hours printing, have never seen a single layer shift.

Thanks.
It is a step not a drift. See picture.
Crash detection is off. I turned that off first day of printing.

Agreed.. Thats a step.. But what about the support towers in your bottom picture.. They look all over the place like its slipping on many layers.

Yes it does appear like that in the picture, but it's just the supports the print itself is fine apart from the step at the beginning.

But as I said it's not always the beginning, sometimes half way through, one time it was just before the top layers.

Sometimes it shifts by 1cm other times it's just a few mm.

Here's another example
