Hi, just found out from prusa support, that it's the new firmware. I'm going to flash a previous firmware on. Hope this helps anyone else that has the same problem.

Shew.  I am glad it was not the gas or petrol you put in it.  Just kidding.  I am glad it was firmware related.  I hope they have a fix soon.

Hi, just a update on the knocking problem I have coming from the motor which drives the y axis belt. I have found out it only makes this weird noise when it prints diagonally, I also changed the firmware with a previous one but it didn't cure the problem I have. So I flashed to the latest firmware which came out this month and also didn't cure my problem. I spoke to prusa support again and they stated this is a normal sound it makes and that's why they have a stealth mode so you can't hear the knocking sound so much. I really think there is a problem with something but I don't really know what it is, I've tightened the belts, lubed the bearings. If anyone has come across this problem on your printer I would appreciate how you resolved it. Many thanks

At what rate does the printer knock? Once a second, like a knock on a door?

So you think the tech at Prusa is lying?  I do get some noises on my printers that are louder with diagonal movements.  I might not be the best judge of sound.  I have hearing loss and I can ignore it.  I do notice a movement especially with my Original Mk3 that has been upgraded.  I do not hear it with stealth mode so they might be correct.

@Simon - try it with different fill patterns.  you will find the sound changes.  The amount of noise is rather easy to control - rotate the part on the bed - the sound you hear will get more or less depending on the orientation.  I have taken to solving a few problems by minimizing X and maximizing Y movement - such as orient the length of the things you print in the Y orientation.  Of course if you are printing infill that still windes up diagonal, the "knocking" will get louder.  Some people call it buzzing.  Some call it "old computer modem sound".  

The only thing that I know that can make a "knock knock" door nob sound is when the mesh bed leveling (or calibration) seeks the Y stop - which _is_ the motor housing hitting the undercarriage of the Y axis transport.  It will "knock knock" two times as it seeks the stop.  It does the same on the X axis during mesh leveling or when starting any print - it is finding the end stop - zero.

A common knocking sound can happen when printing infill. Specifically, GRID infill.  It usually happens when the print speed is slower and the filament has a chance to cool between diagonal passes. It gets worse if the printer is overextruding or if the part lifts from the bed or has an infill curl condition.

The grid knock sounds a lot like your issue, Simon. So we need more information. Please help us help you - and answer some of the questions we are asking.

The best and easiest is for you to save a project that demonstrates the problem. Zip the .3mf project file into a .ZIP archive, and post it here. That allows us to see exactly what the printer is doing when you hear the noise. A video with the noise would also help.

hi, thank you for your reply. i can still hear the knocking noise while in stealth mode. but it is a lot quieter though

Zipping is easy and our friend google helps:

On a PC:

In Prusa Slicer - prepare your file for slicing and gcode export.  Then, save the project:  FILE : SAVE 

You can also use FILE : SAVE AS if you want to choose a different name, this works just like any Windows or Mac application.

Once you have saved the file (e.g., MyProject.3mf) then use the standard operating system tools to create a compressed folder, also known as a ZIP archive. Once the ZIP folder exists, copy the .3mf into that folder. Then reply to a post here, and drag the ZIP from your desktop into the text box - the box will turn blue. Drop the file. When it is done uploading, click the INSERT INTO POST button. 

You upload pictures the same way - but no need to zip them. jpg or png are acceptable.
