I3 MK3 Kit with no 3D Parts possible ?

Hi @all

since some minutes i ordered my first Prusa I3 MK3 as a Kit ...

and as the 3d Printing Noob that i am, i thinking about the possibility that every user can print his 3d Printed Prusa Parts
by his own as long he has a 3D Printer at home.

Why is there no possibility to Order a I3 MK3 "Tech & Metal Kit" without 3D Parts for a fairly reduced price or a voucher for later orders,
maybe only for Customers if they had allready a Prusa Modell.

It would not be massiv but maybe it reduce some shipping rubish and put out some spacy colored I3 MK3 :ugeek:

Maybe someone else ask it before or has the same idea, not bad the first Noob Post is for free 😆

Cheers

Well there is not a huge volume of plastic in a MK3 perhaps as much in a largish hardback bestselling novel. so the shipping saving would be marginal at best. there is a German maker of MK3 kits and they are very well thought of indeed and he seems to sell just such a no printer parts MK3 kit but his plastic parts included kits are more than 300 euros more than Prusa charges.

Lots of folks do print themselves a set of plastic parts once they get their Prusa MK3s dialed in; and photos of MK3 printers in just about any plastic color you can imagine can be found with a Google image search.

each part is $3.66 on the store. so I'm guessing it might be able to save $40. maybe 10 in shipping

I have a Prusa,therefore I research.

That isn't exactly how that works. You won't see a full $3.66 price reduction on each part. You're paying a LOT over cost for those parts. This would realistically save PR just a few dollars, but reduce their income per printer by a significant amount.

I was trying to point out how insignificant it would be. with rough math

Hi Guys ... to be honest i was surprised that someone started a little discussion 😀

Well .. if you want to realy calculate such a thing then you have a lot of factors that can matter

- material costs
- produktion cost ( power, printer tear, work time for harvesting / quality check)
- wrapping for delivery costs
- generate free capacities for printing other stuff
- If Kit´s and assambeld printers are not in stock in reason of produktion capacitys by 3d parts experiends customers did´t need to wait
- did i offer it allways or is it available only if waiting times are over 2 weeks maybe
- maybe a constant higher troughput > new range for the purchaser by framework agreements
- maybe 30 - 50 euro in a Voucher didn´t cost Prusa the amount in Euro for real
- did i like to outsource it to the customer if he want it ?

and so on...

don´t let us go to deep with this possibilitys ... Josef Prusa seems to be a good business guy with a nice concept in his factory (as far i can see in the videos from factory showing around) and if it would be interesting for him he will offer it or not 😉

When i get my prusa i will take a look how many is printed :geek:

cheers

The plastic parts actually cost Prusa very little to make. Wish I weighed them, but let’s say there’s half a kilo of plastic in there, that’s half a spool.

I’d bet they would not be able to discount the BYO Plastic model enough to make it an attractive option. Plus there is a fair amount of overhead in having to maintain a separate sku.
.

But you can always get the kit, print your own parts, and simply not use theirs.

When someone asks you if you're a god, you say, "YES!"
