How to increase the temperature to make the parts stronger?

Hi, I read that one could increase the temperature to make the filament line join together better to produce stronger part. Is it to increase the temperature of the nozzle or build plate or something else? Could you please let me know how to achieve that? For Prusament PETG, what temperature value is recommended? Thanks

RE: How to increase the temperature to make the parts stronger?

Hi I think you are right about increasing the temp to get stronger layers.

Most of my printing in the last year has been trying to perfect thin wall printing, i have been printing the R/C models from 3D printlabs

They are normally .4mm and usually printed in PLA.

I have been unhappy with the way pla bonds, not really strong enough, getting them of the build plate can sometimes break the part.

I have been playing with temps and different fan settings, but given up using PLA

Recently have been using PETG. What a turn around. very strong layer bonding

The petg i have been using is Sunlu and they say up to 230c, for me i have been using 250+ for many weeks now.

the surface finish is very clean and shiny, but the most important for me is the fact it is very strong.

I dont know much about going up on the bed , but i am now at 90c

Thanks. How do I increase the temperature? I think by default, 250c is assigned to PETG.

@peter-c20

There are 2 ways Peter.  You can either use the tune menu on the LCD after you have started a print to increase/decrease temperatures for both the nozzle and/or bed.

Or you can go into your filament settings in Slicer and increase the temperatures there.  That way the gcode file will have the new temperatures in.

Every filament could be different, not all PLA/PETG are the same , different manufacturers use different formulations and even within manufacturers there are many differences.  For example White filaments print different to others due to the materials that make it white usually.

Its normal to print a temperature tower to see what temps that filament is good at.  For a quick strength test printing a 10x10 x/y by 40-50mm high cylinder with 2-3 walls and 10% fill and then trying to break it will give a reasonable indication of relative strength.  Print a series with the temp increasing by 5 degrees each time and then break them with your hands.

Be aware that the first layer has its own temperature setting so if you use the lcd to increase temp while printing the first layer then it will be reset to whatever the gcode has in it when it starts printing the second layer.  The Slicer method is probably better except for on the fly changes.

If you do find that you need to print a particular material hotter/cooler then you can save the profile with a custom name (as you can not save default profiles).

Reducing the cooling will be more effective than raising the temperature.

Yes i think no fan is the way yo go, i have had more failed prints and errors with the fan.

i had a lot of thermal runaways, before the 3.9 .0 FW came out, when the fan came on at full speed it would go down by 10 to 15 c on the hot end.

i had 2 cures one was not to use the fan at full speed, or run a thermal sock this was the best.

As i did not always remember to set lower fan speeds in the slicer

Will the 3D printed parts around the extruder  melt without the fans on?

Just to make it clear, i only turn the part cooling fan off.

yes you are right we need the heat break going, sorry for not making that clear.

Look in youtube for a german guy, he has tested this.(he makes a lot of movies with testing).

He test a lot of different ways.

The best way is to print without part fan, but of course not every model will this work.

CNC kitchen is his name.
