Re: Heat-bed connector question . . .

, tell my children I love them and have me buried in a fluorescent green PETG box with working hinges.

😉

Now you're going to need a bigger printer,
it will take ages to print a man size PETG box on a prusa i3 mk3

and all those smaller sections will take loads of design and assembly work

but if the parts are well designed, you will be able to rest in peace, knowing that the hinges were lovingly printed already assembled!

Peter, that part of the heatbed is not heated,

try PLA...

Joan

Working great Joan ! Had the PLA cable cover in place all day, been printing all day, zero issues, thanks again for your input !

Good morning Peter,

Glad to hear it was a success,

out of interest, was the clamp the new style or the old style?

the picture above shows the new style two piece clamp with three screws, the old style has one screw and a cable tie

It was the new clamp with the three screws - the one that came with my printer (and broke in transit) was the new three screw version too.

One thought I had was whether it might be a good idea to stick a strain relief on the cable where it enters the clamp (I'd modify the STL of the clamp to correctly hold the strain relief) . . . I just thought that with the constant to and fro of the the heat-bed the cable where it enters the clamp might suffer over time ?

Re: Heat-bed connector question . . .

Hi Peter.
your cable bundle is quite short, adding that strain relief, with the current cable length is likely to cause restricted travel on the Y axis... triggering the stall current on the motors,
leading to false reporting of y axis length issues, or pulling the wires Filament and spiral wrap.

this could lead to concentrated flexing in another area!

there is a small ammount of spare cable in the Einsy housing, but you would need a longer piece of nylon filament, and a longer piece of spiral wrap, to use the extra length, and then you would need to leave a little extra space behind your printer, to cater for the longer cable bundle.

I replaced my heatbed power cables with longer, flexible silicone insulated ones, when the originals broke, I also used longer nylon and braided cable sheath instead of spiral wrap

Great information, thanks !

Yes, I saw a video a few weeks ago about swapping out the cables for flexible silicone cables . . .

Something I'll definitely look into, longer, more flexible silicone cables, with a soft strain relief (probably a soft silicone too).
