Hardened extruder on the daily?

Hi,

I just received the stainless steel and Ruby extruders from Prusa and wanted to know if I can use then all the time? I am printing regular PLA, glow in the dark, stainless steel, wood, bronzefill, and copper. I don't want to have to switch out extruders all the time, but I also don't want to waste money on a bunch of extruders.

Thanks!

Good morning Lydia,

you should be able to leave the ruby nozzle in, all the time...

however, if you get a clogged nozzle due to debris, you will be more intent to clean out the ruby nozzle, than simply fit a new low cost brass replacement

I use a hardened steel nozzle in my TAZ 6 for daily printing, even with nonabrasive materials, and I haven't had any feed/flow issues so far after about 10 days of printing. I've used it for some abrasive materials (carbon fiber and glass-filled nylon, glow in the dark PLA) as well as standard PLA, and copolyesters (mainly eSUN PETG and colorFabb nGen).

The Ruby nozzle should work even better as it has even better durability than the steel nozzles and has better heat conductivity due to it having a brass casing. I'm strongly considering picking one up for my MK3 when the stock brass nozzle wears out.
