Galaxy black PLA by Prusa

First a big thank you to Prusa for sending me a roll of Galaxy Black, always nice to get a freebee.

Printed a couple of small items so far using the same settings as my normal Sunlu PLA+, looks identical apart from the colour of course. The black is not deep as per many plastic items in the office but the filament in embedded with microscopic silver particles. The overall effect is literally like looking at the night sky and very pleasing. No idea what the silver bits are made of, will probably find out late September when the details/pricing are published.

Prusa say this PLA is now manufactured in-house and they are achieving 0.02mm diameter tolerance, it will be interesting to see what other colours will be available and the price point. For most of us it is the shipping cost that could add 25-30% to the price, my Sunlu costs £18 including shipping but would probably pay around £20 direct from Prusa. Naturally I would like to support Prusa and encourage future product development which of course needs funding but my disposable income 'aint what it used to be !.

Are you using a hardened nozzle? I was looking at similar flecked/speckled black PLAs for a project; they were basically "filled" filaments--i.e. hardened nozzle recommended, as they tend to be abrasive. 😉

That's "MISTER Old Fart" to you!

No, just the standard brass. A bit concerned now as everything running well with Sunlu and don't want to introduce another problem. Will swap back to Sunlu after current print until I find out more.

Ooooh, so they are out in the open now. That is the first I've heard of it. Hopefully I'll get my roll in the not-too-distant future.

Just a few examples using GB. Green backboard is 1cm squares for scale. One item printed with supports that came away cleanly, the usual poor underside finish but I can live with this.

I should also point out that the spool winding is excellent.
