FW3.13.3 Firmware for MK3, MK3S, MK3S+

Hello all; We are happy to announce the release of our 3.13.3 firmware for our MK3 series of printers

Summary

  • Fixed Ghost layer shifts
  • Improved XYZ calibration
  • Prevents false positive “File incomplete. Continue Anyway?” messages.

This is the stable release of firmware version 3.13.3, with a primary focus on fixing the ghost layer shifts found in the previous firmware release.

We would like to apologize that it took so long to find the issue/bug and fix it.

Please, read the change log v3.13.2...v3.13.3 and Milestone FW 3.13.3

This firmware version only works correctly with MMU2S/MMU3 firmware version 3.0.2! It is necessary to update the firmware in the MMU2S/MMU3!

Fixed Ghost layer shifts

Short summary: In firmware version 3.13.2, the XY axis currents were incorrectly configured and they were not switched to running currents after homing. This is now fixed.

Detailed overview:
We received several reports on Ghost layer shifts from the community, but we couldn’t reproduce these issues on any of our internal 3D printers.

Eventually, we found a printer on which we could reproduce this issue. However, it wasn’t consistent. Sometimes, the printer worked just fine and the Ghost layer shifts appeared randomly. This is why the fix took longer to prepare. We had to analyze the issue from multiple perspectives and kept testing various approaches. Although we received a number of reports from the community, we couldn’t find a single common denominator. For example, some reports claimed that the only stable firmware was as far as 3.11.0, while others claimed that the system is still stable on FW 3.13.1, etc. Moreover, most final releases contain hundreds of changes/commits which makes it even harder to find the needle in the haystack.

Eventually, we found out that we needed to focus on FW 3.13.2 because with FW 3.13.1 we have not seen this happening. The changes between FW 3.13.1 and FW 3.13.2 still have 227 commits and 114 change files but compared to FW 3.11.0 → FW 3.13.2 with 2125 commits and changed 805 files, this was an “easy” task to find the cause.

Homing needs lower currents to reliably find the home positions.
The lower currents on the XY axis caused Ghost layer shifts in some printers. These currents are necessary for precise homing, therefore, they need to be switched to regular currents for proper operation. We have identified and fixed the cause in this release.

Improved XYZ calibration

After the 4th point of XYZ calibration of the bed, the X gantry raises up and waits for user interaction to place the sheet back on the bed to continue with the MBL. When there was something under the sheet or nozzle, the previous versions have pushed the nozzle into the sheet or bed.

Now the printer firmware moves the Z axis less aggressively downwards and checks if the PINDA triggers. It also detects obstacles on the bed and displays an error before starting to search the MBL points.
When the sheet is empty, there is no substantial debris on the nozzle and the PINDA is working correctly, the nozzle shouldn’t be pushed into the sheet anymore.

False positive “File incomplete. Continue Anyway?” messages prevented.

Newer PrusaSlicer versions create larger G-code files than previous versions. This exceeds the limits of the Prusa 8-bit firmware checking for M84. We increased the value from 20000 to 30720 so even large G-code files shouldn’t cause false trigger.

Found the Revo version too: https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/releases

Thanks for getting that as well.

Just tried the revo v3.13.3 and get "print aborted" as it tries to do the thermal calibration. Is the solution still "just go back to 3.11"?

RE:

I'm having a similar issue. I've been using the 3.13.3 updated firmware but on a recent print I received a "thermal anomaly" error. Printer keeps beeping and it doesn't even allow me to do a thermal calibration. Any suggestions? When I check the temperature settings it seems that the temperatures all check out and are not problematic at all. I've temporarily reverted back to the 3.13.1 version of the firmware and the printer is fully functional. Will I compromise the printer in any way by using the 3.13.1 firmware?

Sorry but I am really, really disappointed in Prusa's latest firmware releases, it seems that no good testing is being done.  How can we improve this I am willing to test firmware in beta because this is really shit.

With the latest update the filament is not going through eventhough the filament sensor is working perfectly.

Try to calibrate first layer, the first 2 lines it prints so in front of the printbed but all other printing is not done as no filament is coming out.

Please fix this !!

Had the same problem: Old software vision - everything worked fine.

New software version filament sensor makes problems. It was like a lottery to start a print. Failed to move in the filament correctly.

So flashing back to a brighter past and everything works fine again.

we have discovered that with the new software FIRMWARE 3.13.3 (3.0.2) on the MK3S+ +MMU2S with the revo nozzle on the printer it keeps going back to the texture bed even though we select the smooth bed, is anyone else having problems with this

RE: FW3.13.3 Firmware for MK3, MK3S, MK3S+

I updated PrusaSlicer this morning when prompted and my printer told me to update firmware, so I did it.  Well, I'm not happy with this one.  My printer has been fine until today, I started a print and about 2 hours into a 6 hour print I got a thermal error and a reset.  I was using through Octoprint and there was nothing in the temperature graph showing any thermal issues.  I restarted the print and got 3 hours in and my printer simply stopped functioning.  I put the print on an SD card and restarted and came here.  I can't say I'm surprised that others are having problems as well.  I really don't like this feature that PrusaSlicer tells you to update firmware.  Clearly this one has issues.

You can disable the check for firmware in Prusa slicer.. just comment out a line in one of the printer settings.. Search in forum and you should find the place. I was going to take the plunge and update.. but maybe will still hold off a bit..

RE: FW3.13.3 Firmware for MK3, MK3S, MK3S+

I have 3 MK3S+ printers.  Upgraded the firmware and  2 of them have been acting weird.  The first one gets random color changes during the print even though there are no color changes in the file.  The 2nd one starts the bed leveling routine and then both thermistors report 0 degrees and enter a mintemp error.  Almost looks like the operating system is winking out.  It has been very frustrating. From the looks of the forum, sounds like 3.13.3-7094 is a bust.

Upgrade failed right after verifying. Subsequent attempts to reflash also failed due to failure to open COM port. After a reboot, and yet another attempt it succeeded completing both firmware flash, verify and xflash. Hopefully it did not mess anything up..

RE: FW Crash Error on Startup with FW 3.13.3 (MK3, MK3S, MK3S+)

I updated the firmware to 3.13.3 and I'm now getting FW Crash errors on startup. It was working fine and error-free before this FW upgrade.

I'm going to revert back to 3.13.2 until I see this issue fixed.
