Fresh MK3S build - First 3D Printer and Couldn't be happier. Except some Z height issues...

Prusa exceeded expectations. I made a stop frame animation of my unboxing and build. I can't believe that within 48 hours of starting unboxing that I would have my first custom designed print off the bed and being perfect. 

Sound't have put off this purchase for as long as I did. 

One issue I did have was getting the head close enough to the print surface. I'm at a Z adjustment of 3.0 to 3.5 right now, but if I raise the bed height sensor  and re-do the Z axis test the nozzle just runs right into the bed and says that the sensor isn't detecting. I have it printing great, but with that big Z adjustment factor. Any ideas please let me know.

Set the Pinda up exactly as the manual states. That should put it further away from the bed by about 1mm. The z height adjustment should go negative, so for example -955 or -1250. 
The Pinda detects the metal sheet at A maximum of around 2mm so when it detects and is ‘zero’ that’s however far away it was when you used the zip tie. The idea is you adjust the nozzle closer to the bed to get the correct distance to squish the filament against the surface just enough. So all live z values should be negative and should range between -0 and -2000, although I wouldn’t be comfortable unless it was between  -700 and -1300 personally.

Cool video. Congratulations. There's a learning curve to get comfortable with the Z calibration and related items.

I took some photos for our local techie club, but I did not even think of doing a video.  Brings back memories.

Mine worked more or less at first, after I got the initial Z calibration dialed in.  The frog printed perfectly for me on the first shot.

I got mine before the Covid hit, and I'm so glad I did.  The local 'makerspace' locked down and I would have been SOL without my own machine.

So what is the issue that is caused by a larger live Z correction value? Is the pinda less reliable at 3mm or greater and that is what is causing people to look for that lower value for the live Z?

Thanks, it was a lot of fun to build and I've only done small stop motion before, so that was a lot more photos than what I have previously done. Wish I would have taken more though. All my prints so far have turned out great and getting into experimenting more with the options with Prusa Slicer.

If you re really setting your Live-Z to -3.00mm, you've either got a faulty/abnormal PINDA, or your nozzle is higher than the PINDA.

As stated, the PINDA should trigger at ~2mm.  Moving the nozzle another 3mm down would be an issue.  Either yours is triggering at ~4mm, or there is something else seriously wrong.

Thanks everyone. I re-ran the XYZ calibration and then re-ran the first layer Z calibration and got down to -0.350 which seems much more inline with what is acceptable. I didn't however move the PINDA sensor. So not too sure what happened the firs time around, but everything is still printing great.
