FlashAir help: Card stopped working

I have a Flashair card in my Mk3 which has worked flawlessly for years.. It was right next to the router, which I thought was important..

But I recently moved house and my printer is on a different floor to the Router.. But I figured it was worth a try.

So I changed the config on the FlashAir to the new SSID/Password of the Wifi and stuck it in the printer and I could mount it on my PC.. So I sliced something to the card and printed and it worked flawlessly..

I was staggered as it was so far from the router, but wondered if the range thing was never an issue after all.But after the first print, I could no longer see the card on the network (couldn't even ping it)... And nothing I tried has bought it back.. I have even put it in my laptop and stood right next to the router and it won't connect...

Something has gone wrong and I can't work out what?? Does anyone have any experience or thoughts as to what might be wrong?

It crossed my mind that the card is corrupted, so I reformatted it and replaced the config but no change.. Are there any kind of logs that can be enabled so that I can see it trying to connect?

RE: FlashAir help: Card stopped working

Have you checked which Wifi channel the router is using?

I have to limit my FritzBox to the channels below 12-14 because the card only supports channel 1-11.

No.. I will check.. But it worked flawlessly for a few hours..

I just stuffed it in my laptop and its working again... The only thing which changed is that I rebooted my router.. I bet that was whats wrong... And I wonder if it got into this state as it was right on the edge of 'reception'.

Perhaps I should try again.... I will be getting Mesh Wifi soon, so that will solve this.. But it looks like there is nothing wrong with the card after all.

RE:

Most Wifi routers use auto channels and periodically scan for the least used channel and then automatically change to that.

Unless you pre-set your wifi the router will select channels based on detecting other wifi units nearby, it will try to pick the least busy channel to minimise interference.   Rebooting will trigger a fresh selection and should improve all wifi traffic on that router - until other wifi routers retune...

As a rough guide you want the minimum wifi signal power that covers your intended working area so that fewer other stations are in range for interference.  Unfortunately no-one sells wifi on the 'weaker is better' basis but instead they offer even greater power to fool customers who have been taught bigger is better 🙁 resulting in worse performance as the high power signal reaches even more stations causing and incurring even more interference.

If your new wifi has the function, try to find the lowest power that just covers your house.

Cheerio,
