First layer blob on print

I'm having an issue with first layer on a prusa petg print, textured sheet, prusa mk3s, prusa printer default settings. Tried this print a couple times with the same result.

About 75% in on the first layer, a blob gets deposited on the print. I've attached a photo. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks  in advance!

RE: First layer blob on print

Raise Z so you can clearly see the nozzle and heater block. You might need to remove the fan duct to see everything.

  • Inspect the heater block and see if there's filament built up on it. If so, it can ooze and fall off at inopportune times. If there's a lot in it, heat it up and use a soft brass wire brush to clean it, being very careful around the delicate wires for the thermistor and heater cartridge. I just use a strip of corrugated cardboard to squeegee crud off. Consider adding a silicone sock to help keep filament off the block.
  • Inspect the gap between the heater block and heatsink. If there is filament oozing out the top of the block, your nozzle isn't inserted properly and filament is leaking out the top. This will also accumulate and fall off randomly.
  • It's also possible that you are having adhesion problems and that blob is a bit of filament that came loose, melted against the nozzle, and was dragged around until finally dislodging in your print. If so, you need to be sure your PEI print surface is pr0perly cleaned and that your Live-Z is properly adjusted. Reply here if this is the case and we can give you more info on these steps.
