Re: Firmware 3.5.0-FINAL for Original Prusa i3 MK3

Hello,

I've also experienced issues with firmware 3.5.0, that I've seen described in other posts :

- weird behaviour of the filament loading :
1) happened 2 times while loading afilament : if I respond "yes" to the "correct color extruded"question the printer unload the filament!
2) The new filament loading speed is a little too fast? The stepper motor extruder skipped one or twice during one loading. I don't like that...
3) one time, during filament loading, the X motor went crazy when loading and the head just flew on the right of the printer ??? (i've also seen that behaviour on another post).

- extruder temperature drops during printing :
As described in other posts, I also experienced temperatures drops of ~13-14°C during a print and visible every 30min on the octoprint temperature charts. I was printing in stealth mode during this print. Didn't try in normal mode, maybe that's why it doesn't affect all users.

- stealth mode noise : (could be from firmware 3.4.0) : it's a minor issue, and maybe a normal behaviour but the stealth mode is much more noisy than before, altough the printing times are significantly reduced (and correspond the prediction of slicr). However, I think it defeat a little bit the purpose of the stealth mode as it is almost the same as normal mode now.

Just to raise the awareness of the temperature issues: There exists a thread dedicated to it:
https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/general-discussion-announcements-and-releases-f61/blips-in-temperature-not-seen-before-fireware-3-5--t26121.html

I suspect it as the issue for clogs and/or failed prints. Today I was able to observe a (short) 10 degree temperature drop mid-print, live on the MK3 display and it also was logged on the octopi (shape as seen so many times in that thread). Printing continued during that drop. Since I like to be a bit on the safe side temperature-wise, my print does not fail, but a 10°C drop may be a big issue, if your temperature is more on the cold side of (printig-)life ...

I found this firmware to have a couple fixes I like:

When the mesh leveling doesn't work, instead of waiting for you to reset, it waits for you to press the button, then will run Z to top to get level and try again.
This is a much better behavior. Made me happy to see progress.
It needs to say on the screen to press a button. I would have reset based on past experience, and no indication is given onscreen.

There was something else I liked but now I can't remember. Running ZB's firmware now to save time and use the filament sensor.

I would really like to see a "load all to gears" feature - I find prints work better when the slack is already in the lines/rewind device, whichever you are using, mainly due to having to spin up a whole KG quickly. Perhaps this could be mitigated by making the first load of each filament comparatively slow, but I'd rather have any failures be up front instead of 18 hours when when you first use a particular color.

I maintain an informal list of San Diego, CA 3D printing enthusiasts. PM me for details. If you include a contact email and I can add you to the informal mailing list.

Hi guys,

Was this issue ever acknowledged and more importantly fixed:

https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/general-discussion-announcements-and-releases-f61/blips-in-temperature-not-seen-before-fireware-3-5--t26121.html

It was so obvious and seen by many people that I assumed it would be fixed.. But there is no mention of it in the release log...

Disappointing if not, as its clearly affecting a lot of people.
