Display file after selection - Firmware Feature Request
Several times I've come to find my printer an hour into printing the wrong thing - (EDIT: which I embarrassingly forgot you don't have to do as the screen does eventually display the file after a while!. Still it can be a while till it shows up with the MMU involved)
When you "print from SD", it is easy to inadvertently rotate the knob (even so little it doesn't physically "click"), and change the file you are trying to print.
I would be ENTIRELY open to adding a confirmation step - I could develop the habit of double clicking if I don't use it.
Even if you think that will interfere with the workflow, just leaving the selected filename on the screen - or a message like "starting print of "___yournamehere___" for 3-5 seconds would be a bonus.

An option to word-wrap the filename when selected rather than waiting for the text to scroll would be useful!

Similarly, I worry about walking away from the machine with the assumption it will be doing one thing (like printing cold) when it has the wrong filament in it.

Re: Display file after selection - Firmware Feature Request
I fully agree with everything that was said in this thread.
Maybe my knob is defective but it happen to me way too frequently that the selection moves to the next/previous selection when I click it.
As said, there is no confirmation nor filename displayed so you just have to pray or press the reset button...
Can you please help us on this ?
Re: Display file after selection - Firmware Feature Request
It seldom happens to me, but very annoying if it happens...
New selection procedure could be:
1) First click: File is selected and marked with a symbol as first letter (fixed mark at position 1 of name)
2) If knob is rotated (wrong file): Return to file list and selection (reset selection)
3) Second press: When file is marked (step 1) the file is then printed.
This would make it easy to select a file for print, only two presses if selection is right and an option to re-select if the knob accidentally should rotate and select a wrong file.
I like it to be simple, no YES, NO and Are you sure?... 😉

Re: Display file after selection - Firmware Feature Request
Seriously, I think there must be a BUG. ❗ ❓ It happens to me way too often. Even if I am really paying attention and pressing the knob carefully without turning it at all, it sometimes starts a different print anyway.
It's a bit frustrating. Then I need to stop it, take of printed bits, clean the bed and run it again. But it never happened twice in a row. Every time I rerun the print it printed the correct file then.
Re: Display file after selection - Firmware Feature Request
I think the 8 bit computer is doing too much work. and yes.. I too suffer from the "lag click" syndrome. it does help allot having octoprint going. even the 5 dollar pi zero w. works great for lag clicks. just don't put a camera on the pi zero. I just use the zero to "replace" sd car usage.
I have a Prusa,therefore I research.

What do you mean by a Lag click?
Re: Display file after selection - Firmware Feature Request
its like the controller slows down while clicking (almost a delayed click) I might see if I can turn off the file scroll. bet that clears up some ram somewhere.
