Hi, I would recomend to read the Prusa printing handbook first, you can find there most of the answers on all three your questions. The first section is moreless about printer preparation, but in the end you can find details about materials and maintenance.
If there are still some question, we will be pleased to answer.

From the filament point of view, start with included PLA. Once you have a good results also with your own models, try PETG. No additional material or changes in printer needed for this.

The only difference real is the printing temperatures. PLA hotend about 220Degrees C, bed anything up to 60Degrees and use the fan full after the first layer.
PETg hot end about 230Degrees bed about 80Degrees and fan about 50% after the first to 3 layers

nozzel size depends on your actual print requirement

Hi robin.a,
I think that this information is excactly what the beginner is not able to understand. The begineer will have a Slic3r with all the default settings. This is the very best he can start with. Together with reading the handbook, the first steps are given.
Differences in tempartures are given by the standard profiles, no need the care of it.
I can not see any reason for the beginner (understand not more then one year of the user experience) to change anything in the standard user profiles.

Slic3r is the slicing program on your PC or MAC. It converts an STL file into GCODE. An STL file is the file format used for CAD drawings for the model you want to print - you can get pre-designed models from thingiverse, for example. GCODE is the format that the printer uses.
So steps to printing pre-defined models are typically :
1..download STL file of the model you want to print
2..load the STL into slic3r
3..in the slic3r program select the printer model, material, eg PLA, etc and slice it. Save the GCODE generated to SD card.
4.. put the SD into the printer and print.
