Did I just ruin my print bed surface? - Etched and raised areas

Hi Guys

Please see the video - my PETG print left etched and raised areas when I removed it from the bed. This did not happen last time.

Thanks

Mike

That's normal. The adhesive softens and migrates when warm. It should go away as you use the sheet. You can help it go away faster by doing your next print on the other side of the sheet.

Note, however, that PETG needs a separating agent on the smooth sheet (windex or gluestick) as it can stick too well and tear out chunks of the sheet when removed. (You *did* read the materials guide, right?)

Side note - don't touch the print bed with your bare fingers. Oils from your skin contaminate it and can cause severe adhesion problems, especially considering that the typical advice for cleaning the bed (IPA wipedown) tends only to spread it around in an even thinner film.

See Bobstro's notes here:

Thank you for taking the time to replay - I made some bad assumptions - I did not read the material guide - I was used to printing with PLA I didn't even think about it. Stay well. 🙂

🙂

You weren't the first, and you won't be the last... Don't forget to check it for each new material you print, flex is another one that's a trap for young players.

On the bright side, now that you've avoided sheet damage, I doubt you'll make the same mistake again... for we remember our mistakes better than our successes.
