Considerable Gaps Between First Layer Lines

All,

I have been trying to tune my Prusa MK3S for several weeks now and have tried everything from extrusion width, Z calibration, Overlap, to linear advance. When Printing, I consistently have gaps that don't seem to be affected by my slicer modifications. I was having this issue with a 0.4mm nozzle and now am trying a 0.6mm nozzle but both seem to present the same problems. I am printing with ESUN PLA+ at 200-210. I am not extremely new to 3D printers but could use some outside advice.

P.S.  My printer seems to make a "clicking/popping" sounds when constantly extruding. I have replaced the PTFE tube, made sure there is no blockage and attempted to set my tensioning screw to the best of my abilities.

Here are the Pics of my failures:

Thanks,

RE: Considerable Gaps Between First Layer Lines

How does it work with the prusament that came with the printer?  Same problems?  I am not familiar with ESUN PLA+ does it pick up moisture?  Popping at the nozzle usually means moisture, but PLA doesn't pick up much moisture from the tests I have seen and my experience.

How does the first layer calibration look?   bottom layer looks like nozzle may be high?   Must re-calibrate first layer at each nozzle change also.

Make sure the slicer is setup for the correct nozzle diameter.    If the first layer looks good after calibration, but succeeding layers have spaces, slicer may be set for a bigger diameter nozzle than you are using. If you have a bigger nozzle than defined in the slicer, the edges are rough and smaller holes are filled in.

Make sure nothing is loose on the X or Y axis.   Top layer  looks like inconsistent spacing.   Is the clicking from the extruder? or something  on the axes.   Over/under tension on the belts causes problems.

You don't need a lot of tension on the filament gear idler.  Mine just has the bolt end barely through the nut on the idler.

I have, only a few hundred hours myself.   I use the default settings for filament.  I use Prusament mostly with the default 4mm nozzle.   I may try 6mm nozzles after a little more experience.

You have set the nozzle diameter in Printer Settings > Extruder n   ?

You first layer Z calibration needs to go lower, more squish.

Fizzing and popping almost always means damp filament.

Loud clicking is often the extruder idler a little too loose; to check feel the filament above the extruder, if you feel the clicks then it's definitely the idler.

Cheerio,

Thats clean, even, underextrusion.

rerun exactly when you have in the pics, while its squirting the purge line tap the knob and navigate to 'tune' scroll down to 'flow' add 20% to whatever you see and back your way out to the info screen. let it complete and you will have some data to ponder.
