Cleaning filament procedure?
Hi,
I have the mk3s+ and have been reading up on nozzle cleaning. I want to try just running some
cleaning filament first. Why do I have to remove the idler door to push the filament through. Can't I just
push it through the usual filament hole?
RE: Cleaning filament procedure?
Filament floss can typically be fed through the extruder the same way as standard filament. Bring the printer up to temp, unload the PLA/PETG etc., make sure the nozzle is away from the print sheet and load the cleaning filament through the top hole. Feed 2-3 lengths through the extruder with 20 second-ish breaks in between. Unload the floss, make sure the extruder feed hole is clean and clear of any filament floss strings and load your printing filament.
RE: Cleaning filament procedure?
the stepper motor and and auto feed have to be disabled, right?
RE: Cleaning filament procedure?
You can run it through like any other filament. If you want to use it for cold pulls, disable the stepper motors in the LCD Menü. No need to open the idler door. Look

Hi, I used auto load for the cleaning filament but it stops automatically after a length.
How do I get it to continually feed until I signal to stop? thanks john
RE: Cleaning filament procedure?
You can manually send it through after loading. Go to Settings/Move Axis/Extruder in the LCD menu.

After auto-loading the cleaning filament (or any filament) the printer will expel an initial length before asking: 'Filament extruding & with correct color?' If you select 'No' each time the printer will dispense an additional length until you're satisfied the hot end is clean enough.
