Re: Buying advice for MK3??

check what your maximum import value before tax,

I would order spares as mentioned above, plus some additional PEI sheets, and ask support for help to integrate this with your initial order(they normally give you a discount code to save you shipping costs)

if you don't have spare value in the initial order, consider bulking your spares order up with some filament to get best value out of your second shipping fee

regards Joan

If you are in the U.S. then the import is on orders above $800. Prusa has marked the price of the MK3 kit just below this amount. For shipping prices I was curious so I added one roll of filament to check the shipping. I then added up to 10 rolls to compare shipping at each level.
You can do the same thing with other parts, just don't hit the ORDER Button, you just go back to your shopping cart.

As a newbie, what accessories/materials should I buy from Prusa (I'm in US) and which make more sense to buy stateside?

What questions am I too new to know to ask?

Paul, no question is restricted if you really have a need to know the answer. You may want to ask basic questions and gain knowledge on a subject before asking the tough questions.
I found there was more to learn about the Slic3r program than just import STL files and convert them to GCODE. I printed several objects before I realized I needed to learn this.

The learning curve depends on your background. I used to do drafting, wood and metal working, designing, fix and repair most things, computers since the 80's and networking. This enabled me to jump in with both feet. I also spent several years in test and evaluation.

I ordered my printer Nov 2017 and received it in Apr 2018. During that time I read back through the different threads. Anything that caught my eye I would search for other replies on the same topic.
As I had questions I just asked.

Below are the things I've purchased from online, but doesn't include filament. At least 90% of it was received before my MK3 arrived.

Is the pro sock the one with the tiny hole?

if so I had my biggest blob of doom because the plastic was prevented from exiting at the tiny hole by a dislodged print, and all of the following filament was redirected inside the sock and around the heat block.... nasty mess.... I have two redundant socks lying around, unloved!

It appears so. Fortunately I was warned about those before recently ordering some, so I got the newer design with the exposed nozzle. So far, no problems. I was thinking about that issue though (the style you describe are beginning to show up in sales, presumably to liquidate inventories?) It occurred to me that it might be possible to salvage them by cutting away the portion that covers the nozzle. I found some sets of 3 small hole punches (1/16", 1/8", 5/16") for about $6 that might do the trick more cleanly.

Re: Buying advice for MK3??

Yeah... Imperial gallons and US gallons??? Colour color... American English???

in the Uk We are currently metricated... but still have all traffic signs in Miles. we buy fuel in litres but define consumption in Miles per Gallon.

we sell food by the kilogram, but ask for it by the pound....

Good to know we have a united front! 😆

Re: Buying advice for MK3??

What was it G.B. Shaw said... "Britain and America Are Two Nations Divided by a Common Language."
I always thought he (or whoever actually said it--I thought it was Churchill 😳 ) should have worked Canada into that mix. We have driveways, gutters, restrooms, and macaroni & cheese; Canadians have drive lanes, eaves troughs, washrooms, and Kraft Dinner--just to mention a very few... 😆
