Broken bed wires

Hi guys. This is the second time in under a year period that i have my bed temp sensor cables broken. And they are mounted exactly how the manual asks you to. Both of the times.

On the first time this happened even the bed power cables , that were degraded on the inside, broke the insulation and short circuited each other resulting in a little spark and smoke.

This time it has only just broke the sensor cables but i'm already starting to fear for the power cables.

Does this also happen frequently to anyone else? Im getting a bit frustrated cause this is not something that comes to mind that can be consumed... Prusa support on the first time was great and even changed the heatbed for ruling out the bed responsability for the short circuit, but this time was not as caring. I just repatched the broken wire section and the printer is running again. Guess this big boom for prusa in 2020 wasn't good for all of us.....

Thanks in advance.

RE: Broken bed wires

I replaced my heatbed power cables with 16AWG Flexible Silicone insulated  wire.  it has 252 individual fine copper cores instead of the 22 medium thickness cores that the prusa cable has.
24 or 22AWG wire would be a good

replacement for the thermistor wires.

Also I added a 3mm Nylon Re enforcement filament into the wire bundle to reduce flexing in any one spot.

Please make sure that the wire bundle does not touch the wall or any other obstacle behind the printer, and ensure that the cable wrap is securely clamped at both ends of the run, it must be inside the heatbed cabl clamp and the Einsy box, cable clamp

Regards Joan

@joantabb

Hi. Thanks for all your tips and support.

The cables are not touching anything at all and clamped at both ends.

Too bad Prusa doesn't take your suggestions and implements them at the selling time.

Why did you replaced yours, by the way?

thanks for all.

João.
