any long term issues with not having the filament sensor on automatic?
I just had my first really bad nozzle and tube plug due to using some new cheap filament. After removing and cleaning my nozzle and installing a new Plastic tube, I started having errors with my filament sensor. I am guessing I tightened the screws too tight so something was impeding the sensor from working properly. My quick fix was to just turn off the automatic function and everything seems to be working well. Is there any drawbacks to turning off the automatic settings on the sensor?
RE: any long term issues with not having the filament sensor on automatic?
apart from not getting the run out feature and auto loading, no...
I would try printing a filament sensor spacer

unscrewing the top of the extruder, unscrew the filament sensor,
Have a peep inside to see if the lever is moving freely
if it is, try fitting a spacer under the sensor PCB... and fasten it up again
I fitted an LED to my sensor, to get immediate status notification
here is the extruder with the top cap removed to show the installation of a 5volt LED
