9 days without commit on GitHub - I feel something big is acoming

The subject says it basically all - I just wonder if Prusa Research now work with private repositories to do the development?

But since I guess they have been working the last 9 days, there must be HUGE changes coming a long the way! Let's call it version 1.0 (yellow banana release);-)

I think they've been doing development on other firmware version has the mark 2 and the mark 2.5 have both head commits

Considering how broken 3.2.0 Alpha is, I was thinking the same thing. They've added a new Einsy board type and they don't have entries now for 04a. It's causing my pinouts to be wrong, giving me 0 degrees on pinda temp readout, no voltages menu, etc.

I suspect the 3.2.0 Alpha changes are extensive enough they don't feel comfortable with people like me compiling it early and playing with it.

Re: 9 days without commit on GitHub - I feel something big is acoming

I wouldn't read anything into the 9 days without a commit. That's just how distributed software development works. Every firmware developer has his/her own copy of the GitHub repo and they are making local changes there. They only push to GitHub when they feel that their changes are "good enough". The definition of "good enough" varies from repo to repo or dev to dev.

They could be testing a single line change for all we know and that testing requires 2 weeks of soak time before being called "good enough". It would be nice for us users to seem frequent activity to get reassurance that they are working on fixes but that just not realistic. If I were a Prusa firmware dev, I would not be pushing my changes until I am sure that eager people like Brigandier (no offense meant or implied, Brigandier) won't end up bricking their machines. 😀

I think we see a change happening. They also told us that they are introducing some kind of new build server right? I think maybe they really abandon GitHub for the development. I do hope not. And of course I hope that the push their changes at least with each release.

Thinking about my PINDA temp examinations - what what would I have achieved if it wasn't for GitHub and open source development (not just open source releases) in general.

I think that it's a bit strong (and premature) to think that they are abandoning GitHub. Unless they are switching to a different service or host, to think that they are abandoning GitHub would be equivalent to saying they are abandoning open source. That seems contrary to their entire philosophy. A "new build server" is a complete different from source code hosting server.

While it is possible that they've decided to go closed source, I think it's extremely unlikely as they would risk losing a huge chunk of their userbase.

More commits happening, looks like you woke them up stahlfabrik.

Seeing some pin changes in there too, maybe they fixed my pinda reading on 3.2.0.

Hehe. No the forum. They wrote it when we were taught not to release our custom builds as “gold” releases to not create a Support hell.

That is not what I implied. Of course they are and will be an open source company. But they COULD decide to only push the releases and to do the development in between private.

But since there are commits happening again...

Re: 9 days without commit on GitHub - I feel something big is acoming

Yes, I followed that discussion. Nowhere in there did I hear they were moving off of GitHub. They asked everyone who was jiggering the code to stop fiddling with the flags to avoid the "unofficial build" warning and then distributing the resultant build. But I didn't see any kind of indication this frustrated them to the point that they would abandon Github.

Sometimes I hate the gossip mill that gets spread around here...

No one said they were leaving GitHub. No gossip here. Just chatting about an real unusually long period of no commits paired with some speculation on what COULD be going on. Relax.

Oh and the theme was about the size of the next release. With LA and the moiree thing and hopefully pinda enhancements it is gonna be big.

Re: 9 days without commit on GitHub - I feel something big is acoming

Woot, can confirm this was a fix for the pinda thermistor pin being wrong. I am guessing they are rolling the Einsy variants up into 1.0.a now, but that's just speculation on my part. 3.2.0 Alpha flashed for me this time with no warnings about board type change (I suspect this was due to the pin issue), and I have a benchy rolling with it now.

I won't be posting this one here, people have had some issues with my previous attempt at it. If you have the guts to compile 3.2.0 alpha yourself though, there's some nice stuff floating in there. Today's changes were mostly around language stuff, pinda thermistor pin, and changes to Prusa's farm mode that I suspect they are using in production; however, the 100+ commit dump they did a week or so ago had some huge changes (new stepper subsystem I think it was, and a lot of other changes). Also, 3.2.0 alpha has LIN_ADVANCE on by default now, even though it's still v1.0. 🙂

I think one of the changes in 3.2.0 is to do with ringing and preventing it. ive not cranked the speed back up to test it yet. the alpha has some oddities with silent mode appearing in the menu twice and seems to pause for a fraction of a second changing. it is an alpha i guess

The GitHub commits during last week still are coming slowly. I really wonder what goes on - didn't they say a RC1 would likely come out in the second week of march? (Yes they did: https://www.prusaprinters.org/original-prusa-i3-mk3-3-months/ )

So is that a good sign that they found a big issue late that they will finally solve and make everyone happy? Or turn certain issues out to be unfixable? I really would appreciate some kind of heads up on what's the current plan, and the next planned milestones.
