RE: 3.12.0 Firmware for MK3, MK3S, MK3S+

Has anyone run the new firmware with a Mosquito and their High-temp Thermistor?

MK3S here.

After thermal calibration everything has been stable up to now.

MK3S+ with:

  • Custom Print Fan Shroud
  • E3D Copper Heatblock
  • E3D Titanium Heatbreak

no further modifications. Initial Calibration went flawless and I just completed a 50 hrs print without any Issue.

Well, success with v3.12.1.5686 firmware, although not quite as I imagined.

Installed v3.12.1.5686.

The first part of the calibration seems to work:-

TM: initial C est. (target seems to be 230C)

TM: cool down <50C (cooling down to <50C)

TM: refine C est. (target again seems to be 230C)

As the temperature reached 224-225C, fan speeds up (not full speed) and the temperature starts to fall: Thermal Anomaly on screen and alarm beeping.

After a few seconds the beeping changed, stopped, and the display showed:-

TM: R[15] estimate (target temp seemed to be 230C), then

TM: R[11] estimate, then

TM: R[7] estimate, then

TM: R[3] estimate, and

it finished and seemed to have worked.

(the fan was varying speed when the display showed R[15] to R[7]).

RE: 3.12.0 Firmware for MK3, MK3S, MK3S+

Installed new firmware (via OctoPrint plugin), got the welcome message to start thermal calibration, started it and soon after a lot of beeps with thermal anomaly, so I reset and tried again a couple of times every time I got the beep.

No luck.

I then finally let it do its things ignoring the errors and beeps, and it completed successfully. Will report print errors if I get any.

Bottom line: if errors are expected during calibration it should be displayed, otherwise calibration should not err.

My setup: Prusa MK3s+ (upgraded from mk3 to Mk3s and then from mk3S to mk3s+) with silicon sleeve on heater, everything stock.

Make sure to submit a ticket to the GitHub issues list. I don't think they're trolling the forums for these reports.

https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/issues

I just installed the 3.12.1 firmware myself. It successfully went through the calibration with no messages, but then, as it sat idle and back down to room temperature I got the "Thermal Anomaly" message. It cleared on its own though, but now I'm worried it's going to pop up randomly when I print something.

Definitely considering a firmware downgrade until this is sorted.

Since installing v3.12.1.5686 and completing the thermal calibration, I've not had any problems, now about 10 hours of printing since the v3.12.1.5686 install.

I got my issue submitted and have been assisted by one of the folks working with the firmware. It's been quite instructive and a learning experience.

One of the things I hadn't realized is how important the PID calibration is, especially when running modified parts. So I've done that along with some additional steps. At this point my printer seems pretty stable with the new firmware and I hope the data I generated helps refine the anomaly detection routine.

Yes. And I'm having problems! Going through the thermistor tables firmware edits and the process isn't working any longer.

I was only able to get things to compile correctly by downgrading to firmware 3.11.1 and Arduino 1.8.19 and then following the adjustments from Slice Engineering and other places on the web. Admittedly with the series of problems I had compiling etc. I have not went back to try 3.12 with Arduino 1.8.19.

I'm running the Bondtech branch of the firmware since I'm also using their BMG extruder. I'm only getting the Anomalies at idle temperatures. I'm just hoping the data I'm supplying over on Github is helping to get to the bottom of the issue. As such, I'll be sticking with this version of the firmware as it doesn't appear to affect my ability to print.

I used RC1 and the final release.  I am using an original Mk3s+ hotend.  A sock is added, mods to the print cooling fan.  Hotend fan is original.   It is in an enclosure. The PID calibration was done. I have  had no problems with thermal errors.   I believe it has reduced "filament break" problems with my MMU2S setup with better thermal calibration.  Automating the PID calibration is a major benefit.   About 100 hours of printing so far.

Would love to contribute my log files, but don't know the process. First how do I get/create a log file? Second, do I just create a post on the github and post it?

It's one thing to say you would like to have feedback on the Revo issue, it's another to make it easy. It would be great to have a quick how-to guide for those of us who have never looked at an MK3S log file.

Has there been any news on more recent firmwares compatibility for MK3S+ with Slice Engineering Mosquito hot end and the high temperature thermistor? Seems there's a firmware reset in my near future and I am very much procrastinating due to the ordeal.

I'm running the latest on that hardware, it's going well enough. I've had it do the loud, continuous beep once so far when the whatever error showed up on screen, but that's been the only time.
