z calibration fails no matter what I try

I've been having the worse luck with my third MK3S.

Last night's print finished no problem but today when I try to start a new print the Z calibration failed at startup. I went to recalibrate the Z and fail, I tried to recalibrate XYZ and fail. I tried the wizard and fail.

At first, it would go all the way to the top and read as Z 0.0 and fail, I unplugged it and moved it to the bottom and it made no difference.

Now when I try the wizard it tests the fans then when it gets to Z it moves about 1/2 inch up then fails. I've tried resetting it, unplugged it for 1/2 hour, and no matter what it fails on the Z test.

It's on the most current firmware.

I just tried to reflash the firmware but the problem persists. It moves up about 1/2" and fails. Reboot does nothing.

This is crazy.

So I did the full factory reset and tried to reflash the firmware but now it refuses to flash and I get a "Wiring Error please check endstops" What endstops. I check the wiring inside and everything looks fine. Like I said it finished a print just fine last night but now this.

What do you see in Support>Sensor_info for the PINDA?

It should only show 1 if it sees the bed. Not sure what it will do if it stays at 1 even when the printer tries to raise Z. I can imagine that the printer will throw an error when it doesn't see a change on the PINDA moving Z.

Maybe the PINDA is broken.

The PINDA is the Z end stop ...

@baklin

Its seems stuck at 1 I moved it away from the bed a good 5 inches and its still 1. Does that mean the PINDA is dead?

@megardstudio

Does the LED toggle if you move a metal tipped screwdriver under the PINDA?

Next you'd check the SENSOR status in the menus to ensure the PINDA state toggles along with the LED on the PINDA.

If either of those fail, the PINDA or the cable have failed.

No change at all. No light either. So probably a bad wire. Ill cannibalize my other printer that's having hot end issues and order a new one. Who makes the Pinda Prusa uses?

It looks like the MK3s uses the Superpinda but I cant find them anywhere. Prusa is out of stock. Does anyone have a source?

@megardstudio

Prusa, so far, is the only source.  Sign up for an mail alert for when they are back in stock.

The answer Chuck is - "I don't know so I shouldn't post an answer."

@tim-2

I spent the last weekend searching high and low and there is no easy to find source.  The answer is likely that it is not available.  If you know of a source, post it.

@megardstudio

There is an alternate source, but the entire supply chain is down. Plus buying the alternate is $150. So waiting for Prusa will save money - I suspect they are buying volume.

It was the pinda, I pulled the one out of my original Mk3 that's waiting on parts anyway, and it's working. I had to factory reset as the calibration was still failing for some reason.

Thanks Tim for the P#
