Z-axis trouble

I finished assembling my kit, and was working my way through the self tests and calibration. The z axis calibration fails - "XYZ calibration failed. Bed calibration point was not found."
I noticed that when it was trying to move the Z axis up and down, only the left motor was running. The right Z-axis motor was still.

I did some testing and tried to run the Z axis up and down from the setting menu. Same thing - the right motor didn't move. I then plugged the motors in one at a time, and the right motor DID run when plugged in by itself.

I then tried hand turning the threaded rod and have noted that the right hand side seems much stiffer than the left side - that is, I have to use a lot more hand strength to get it to turn, whereas the left side moves more freely.
Before I start disassembling, I wanted to ask for some advice on where to focus my attention - what could be causing this? Are there specific things I should look for / try?

Re: Z-axis trouble

it sounds like you may have either cross threaded the right hand z trapezoidal nut or threaded the dust cap down onto the Z motor too far.
when fitting these lead screw nuts the best way I have found is to gently turn them on the top of the lead screw backwards until you feel it sort of drop a tiny bit then reverse the twist to clockwise and gently try it. It might not work first time but keep wiggling it this way until it turns easily but lead screw nuts must turn with the same ease.

if it is a jammed dust cover threaded down too far just loosen it a bit.

Thanks! I rethreaded the trapezoid nut. that seemed to do the job.
