Y-axis Rods
I just received my MK3S and started assembly lastnight after work. I didn't get far when I found I was given four long metal bars and two short ones and none of middle ones for the Y-axis. I understand that these things happen but figures it would be my luck. I sent an email and hope they send the two bars quickly.
However, being impatient, I wonder if I can cut two of the long ones down? I'm limited on tools. I have a hacksaw, vise and metal files but not sure about the metals hardness and needed tolerance. I've also thought about buying a dremel and maybe this with a cutting blade would work? Any thoughts or suggestions in the context, is this possible or a silly idea and simply wait for the bars?
I also was bummed that there was no assembly manual. I went to the website and printed but found it surprising that it's in nine sections that had to be downloaded and printed separately and not in one complete file. Not a big deal but was a time consuming annoyance and a heck of a lot of pages to print and then my printer is older and doesn't have the greatest resolution which proved another annoyance as I couldn't see detail and had to bring out my phone and zoom in on the images.
Anyway, I'm sure they are working on getting a decent assembly manual on this upgraded printer BUT the big thing ... what do you folks think of the idea of cutting down the bars with limited tools?

The rods are pritty hard so not easy to cut with hand tools. The Y rod length i guess is not too important to get exact as they just sit in the end mounts unlike the X and Z which are to set distances.
also you should have had a manual, but i use the online version as its the most uptodate.

You'd probably have gotten a faster response using the live chat instead of email, which is probably backlogged even worse.

I would only try this with a dremel and a large pack of abrasive cutoff discs at a minimum but I do have a proper abrasive chop saw in my machine shop and with it I would aim to cut them just a touch long and then with a grinding wheel a proper perpendicular rest carefully abrade to length.
you are far better advised to use Prusa Live Chat and have them send you replacements.

Thanks all! I suspected it was a silly idea but was hoping and excited with the idea of having the printer assembled this weekend. Oh well! In any regards, I appreciate the suggestion about live-chat. I just finished a session and have the rods being sent on Monday.

I ended up having the exact same issue.
Whoever is picking parts is getting lazy/sloppy I guess?
Found this thread and did the livechat thing, parts shipping Monday. Sigh.. I hate waiting....

I received two 330mm rods, four 370mm rods and zero 320mm rods. Waiting for the correct ones to arrive. Seems something's wrong with some packing list or something. 🙂

I ended up having the exact same issue.
Whoever is picking parts is getting lazy/sloppy I guess?
Found this thread and did the live chat thing, parts shipping Monday. Sigh.. I hate waiting....

You can use those longer rods if you drill 8mm clearance holes in the top brackets of the zrod holders... then you have a pair of neat rods sticking above your printer for perhaps decorative attachments 😀 :geek:

Got my package... with ONE rod.
Chatted again, other rod is on it's way Monday.
On the plus side I got a $35 credit in the store for my trouble, though I'm not any closer to getting to assemble this thing.

I'm pleased. Prusa sent the rods quickly. I received them on Friday. I was hoping to finish assembly this weekend but not quite done. I'm connecting wires to the board so close to the end. Process seems to be going smooth so far. I thought I was being careful and reading everything thoroughly but had a mistake with missing a a component on the extruder and had to back track a bit but other then that, all is going fine. Anyway, I'm pleased with receiving the rods quickly but $35 credit? I'm bummed. I didn't get anything but the rods. 🙁

To clarify, I think he got the credit because they goofed on his original replacement parts shipment.
