I'm having the same exact issue with my kit I got 2 days ago. Video here:

Tried loosening the u-bolts, didn't help. Made sure that bearings were aligned (track of balls inside facing down), didn't help. I don't really want to put lithium grease inside the bearings because it might interfere with the oil already in the bearings. Don't know what else to do. I think these bearings are just loud?
Should I contact prusa and ask for new bearings, or is there more high quality ones out there anyone would recommend?

My MK3 sounds pretty much the same and I "upgraded" to even better rods and slightly better bearings.
(Rods were really not necessary IMHO, the bearings were a little smoother, but not by much)
The stiff assembly of the frame just seems to amplify the minimal vibrations.
As you mentioned you can add grease (no worries about the oil) or if you are in the US you can buy Misumi bearings (not available to consumers in EU)
But if you want a really quiet printer, just put it on a 40x40cm concrete slab.

In my week+ of experience, I've noticed that the Y-axis noise is definitely most prevalent at certain movement rates when making diagonal moves for solid infill layers. Turning the overall speed down to about 85% or up to about 115% seems to quiet it, so there's definitely a resonance issue. Also stealth mode helps a lot and changing the feet to some sorbothane hemispheres quieted things a bit. I also feel like it got quieter after a couple applications of grease and the initial break-in time.

At least use stealth mode. On a properly assembled MK3 it seems to be just fine, the missed-step detection seems unnecessary.

My printer sounds just like that and I always run it in stealth mode. It seems to print fine but on long Y travels it's quite noisy. The X axis is much quieter. I'm going to pack the Y bearings with grease and see if that helps.

I disassembled the bed and cleaned my Y axis bearings with some odorless mineral spirits, let them dry and packed them good with a lithium grease (NLGI #2) and reassembled. It certainly seems quiter so far.
I do wonder if a thinner grease (NLGI #1) would be more ideal with the small size of the balls in LM8UU bearings.

Hi,
I was also having noise and vibration on the Y-axis and first thought it was the bearings. However adding oil didn't help, and touching the rods did not change the sound.
However touching the stepper motor instantly dampened the noise and vibrations. It turned out the stepper motor vibrated against the rear plate. I fixed it with a thin rubber mat (cut from an exercise rubber band) between the motor and the rear plate (only between motor and plate, not between holder and plate).
Hope this can help someone else.

Bearing manufacturers all unanimously say grade #2 grease for linear motion bearings. Unless you have an ME designing an oil bath system or similar lubrication profile, using the manufacturers specs is probably a good idea. But if you are smarter than they are, with more bearing experience, by all means, out think them and use whatever you want to use.
ps: I believe that within a grade of grease, there is quite a viscosity range, with different oil bases.
